Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that the Nephites were taught to defend themselves against their enemies, even to the shedding of blood, but to never raise a sword unless it was to preserve their lives. They believed that if they kept the commandments, God would prosper them. Alma 48:14- 17 " Now the Nephites were taught to defend themselves against their enemies, even to the shedding of blood if it were necessary; yea, and they were also taught never to give an offense, yea, and never to raise the sword except it were against an enemy, except it were to preserve their lives. 5 And this was their faith, that by so doing God would prosper them in the land, or in other words, if they were faithful in keeping the commandments of God that he would prosper them in the land; yea, warn them to flee, or to prepare for war, according to their danger;  And also, that God would make it known unto them whither they should go to defend themselves against their enemies, and by so doing, the Lord would deliver them; and this was the faith of Moroni, and his heart did glory in it; not in the shedding of blood but in doing good, in preserving his people, yea, in keeping the commandments of God, yea, and resisting iniquity.  Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men."

In the New Testament we read that God put Pharaoh into his position for a specific purpose to show God's power and so that His name could be spread throughout the earth.  Each of us likewise has been put into the very time and place we find ourselves in for special purposes which we can fulfill.  It's no accident we were born into the time and place we were.  Romans 9:17 " For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that the Lord's compassion and mercy does not fail. His faithfulness is great and is new every morning.  Our souls can hope in the Lord.  Lamentations 3:22-24 "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.  The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."
