Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that the Lamanites could only approach the city by the entrance and the Nephites were prepared to fight anyone who tried to enter that way. The Lamanites were driven back and slaughtered. Alma 49:18-21 "Now behold, the Lamanites could not get into their forts of security by any other way save by the entrance, because of the highness of the bank which had been thrown up, and the depth of the ditch which had been dug round about, save it were by the entrance.  And thus were the Nephites prepared to destroy all such as should attempt to climb up to enter the fort by any other way, by casting over stones and arrows at them. Thus they were prepared, yea, a body of their strongest men, with their swords and their slings, to smite down all who should attempt to come into their place of security by the place of entrance; and thus were they prepared to defend themselves against the Lamanites. And it came to pass that the captains of the Lamanites brought up their armies before the place of entrance, and began to contend with the Nephites, to get into their place of security; but behold, they were driven back from time to time, insomuch that they were slain with an immense slaughter."

The New Testament tells us that those who are cocky and think they're immune to succumbing to temptation are liable to fall.  The temptations that come to us are common to all people, but God is faithful and won't allow us to be tempted beyond our abilities.  Instead, with each temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you'll be able to endure it.  This should lay to rest the saying "The devil made me do it."  The devil can't make us do anything.  If we'll rely on the Lord to help us, we can resist any temptation that comes our way.  1 Corinthians 10:12-13 "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.'

Some scriptures with a thought booklet are a psalm of praise unto the Lord.  He truly is great and has done many wonderful works--creating the world and everything on it!  We have so much to be grateful for.  Grateful people are healthier and happier people than those who are not grateful.  Gratitude can change your life.  Every day find three things to be grateful for, and find one person to express gratitude to.  After 30 days, see how your outlook on life has improved!  Psalms 111:1-10 "Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.  The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.  His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.  He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.  He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.  He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.  The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.  They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.  He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."
