In the Book of Mormon we read that the kingmen and the freemen voted to decide which form of government they should have, and the freemen won. The kingmen were those of high birth and wanted to be kings themselves. Alma 51:7-8 "And it came to pass that this matter of their contention was settled by the voice of the people. And it came to pass that the voice of the people came in favor of the freemen, and Pahoran retained the judgment-seat, which caused much rejoicing among the brethren of Pahoran and also many of the people of liberty, who also put the king-men to silence, that they durst not oppose but were obliged to maintain the cause of freedom. Now those who were in favor of kings were those of high birth, and they sought to be kings; and they were supported by those who sought power and authority over the people."
The New Testament tells us that we should be generous with our gifts and give from the heart, not with hesitation or because we feel forced to give. God will provide us with what we need for every kind of good work. We will prosper so that we can be generous in every way. Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:7-11 "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that we can pray to God and He will be our helper. He can turn our mourning into dancing if we'll rely on Him. We should give thanks and praise unto Him forever for all He does for us. Psalms 30:10-12 "Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever."
