Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Ammoron the king sent an epistle to Helaman saying that if he would deliver up the prisoners of war he would deliver up the city of Antiparah.  But Helaman sent an epistle back saying that he was sure their forces were strong enough to take the city of Antiparah anyway.  He said they would only deliver up prisons by exchange.  But Ammoron refused to do this so Helaman began to make preparations for battle. The people of Antiparah fled so the city fell into the hands of Helaman.  Alma 57:1-5 "And now it came to pass that I received an epistle from Ammoron, the king, stating that if I would deliver up those prisoners of war whom we had taken that he would deliver up the city of Antiparah unto us.  But I sent an epistle unto the king, that we were sure our forces were sufficient to take the city of Antiparah by our force; and by delivering up the prisoners for that city we should suppose ourselves unwise, and that we would only deliver up our prisoners on exchange.  And Ammoron refused mine epistle, for he would not exchange prisoners; therefore we began to make preparations to go against the city of Antiparah.  But the people of Antiparah did leave the city, and fled to their other cities, which they had possession of, to fortify them; and thus the city of Antiparah fell into our hands.  And thus ended the twenty and eighth year of the reign of the judges."

In the New Testament we're told that the Lord will remember our sins and iniquities no more.  What a comfort it is to know that if we'll repent of our sins, we'll be forgiven and the Lord will no longer remember them! Another point we can learn from this verse is that if the Lord can forget about our past sins, shouldn't be likewise be willing to forget about past sin, both our own and those of other people?  Sometimes we have trouble forgiving ourselves and continue to feel unworthy long after we've repented.  And sometimes we remember the mistakes of others, even after years or decades have passed and they've long since turned their lives around.  This should not be! If God can forget sins that have been repented of, we likewise need to do the same.   Hebrews 10:17 "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the wages of sin is death, but God gave us the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
