Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Pahoran died and there began to be serious contentions among the people about which of hi sons should take his place on the judgment seat. Three of the sons of Pahoran contended for the seat--Pahoran, Paanchi, and Pacumeni.  The people elected Pahoran.  Pacumeni accepted the results of the election, but Paanchi became angry and rose up in rebellion. He was tried by the people and sentenced to death, which angered the people who favored him.  They then sent forth Kishkumen to murder Pahoran as he sat on the judgment seat.  Helaman 1:1-9 "And now behold, it came to pass in the commencement of the fortieth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi, there began to be a serious difficulty among the people of the Nephites.  For behold, Pahoran had died, and gone the way of all the earth; therefore there began to be a serious contention concerning who should have the judgment-seat among the brethren, who were the sons of Pahoran.  Now these are their names who did contend for the judgment-seat, who did also cause the people to contend: Pahoran, Paanchi, and Pacumeni.  Now these are not all the sons of Pahoran (for he had many), but these are they who did contend for the judgment-seat; therefore, they did cause three divisions among the people. Nevertheless, it came to pass that Pahoran was appointed by the voice of the people to be chief judge and a governor over the people of Nephi. And it came to pass that Pacumeni, when he saw that he could not obtain the judgment-seat, he did unite with the voice of the people. But behold, Paanchi, and that part of the people that were desirous that he should be their governor, was exceedingly wroth; therefore, he was about to flatter away those people to rise up in rebellion against their brethren. And it came to pass as he was about to do this, behold, he was taken, and was tried according to the voice of the people, and condemned unto death; for he had raised up in rebellion and sought to destroy the liberty of the people.  Now when those people who were desirous that he should be their governor saw that he was condemned unto death, therefore they were angry, and behold, they sent forth one Kishkumen, even to the judgment-seat of Pahoran, and murdered Pahoran as he sat upon the judgment-seat."

In the New Testament we read about what will occur in the last days--lightening, thunder, and a huge earthquake which is greater than any earthquake since people were on the earth.  Great cities will fall and huge hailstones weighing a hundred pounds will come down from heaven on the people. Revelation 16:17-21 "And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.  And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.  And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.  And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.  And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us not to fear for God will be with us.  He will hold our hand, strengthen u, help us, and uphold us. When we're going through difficult times, we can turn to the Lord in prayer and ask for His help and He will be there for us.  Picture Him holding your hand and leading you in the way you should go.  Isaiah 41:10, 13 "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.  For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee."
