Daily Thoughts

I sent this earlier today but it bounced back from about half the people I sent it to, so I'm sending it again.

In the Book of Mormon we read that Jesus declared that the words of Isaiah are great and He commands the people to search the words of the prophets.  The words of Samuel the Lamanite concerning the Resurrection and also added to their records.  It is important that we study the words of the scriptures. Those who hearken to the words of the Lord, repent and are baptized will be saved.  3 Nephi 23:1-17 "And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah. For surely he spake as touching all things concerning my people which are of the house of Israel; therefore it must needs be that he must speak also to the Gentiles.  And all things that he spake have been and shall be, even according to the words which he spake. Therefore give heed to my words; write the things which I have told you; and according to the time and the will of the Father they shall go forth unto the Gentiles. And whosoever will hearken unto my words and repenteth and is baptized, the same shall be saved. Search the prophets, for many there be that testify of these things.  And now it came to pass that when Jesus had said these words he said unto them again, after he had expounded all the scriptures unto them which they had received, he said unto them: Behold, other scriptures I would that ye should write, that ye have not.  And it came to pass that he said unto Nephi: Bring forth the record which ye have kept.  And when Nephi had brought forth the records, and laid them before him, he cast his eyes upon them and said:  Verily I say unto you, I commanded my servant Samuel, the Lamanite, that he should testify unto this people, that at the day that the Father should glorify his name in me that there were many saints who should arise from the dead, and should appear unto many, and should minister unto them. And he said unto them: Was it not so?  And his disciples answered him and said: Yea, Lord, Samuel did prophesy according to thy words, and they were all fulfilled.  And Jesus said unto them: How be it that ye have not written this thing, that many saints did arise and appear unto many and did minister unto them?  And it came to pass that Nephi remembered that this thing had not been written.  And it came to pass that Jesus commanded that it should be written; therefore it was written according as he commanded. And now it came to pass that when Jesus had expounded all the scriptures in one, which they had written, he commanded them that they should teach the things which he had expounded unto them."

In the Old Testament we read that we need to keep the commandments and laws of the Lord with all our hearts and with our entire being.  We need to covenant with Him that He will be our God and we will be His people. Deuteronomy 26:16-19 "This day the Lord thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.  Thou hast avouched the Lord this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice:  And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;  And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the Lord thy God, as he hath spoken."

Some verses with a thought booklet give us the wonderful news that Jesus Christ provided  victory over death.  Death no longer has a sting knowing that we'll all be resurrected because of the atonement of Jesus Christ. When we find ourselves at the grave of a loved one we need to remind ourselves that death does not have the final word.  Death is swallowed up in the victory of Jesus Christ.  1 Corinthians 15:53-55, 57 "For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.  O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
