Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that we should do unto others as we would have others do unto us (the Golden Rule). We need to enter the strait and narrow gate which leads to eternal life, not the broad and wide way that leads to destruction. We need to beware of false prophets.  People can be known by their fruits. We not only need to say we believe in Jesus Christ, but we need to demonstrate our faith by our actions.  3 Nephi 14:12-27 "Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them, for this is the law and the prophets.  Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, which leadeth to destruction, and many there be who go in thereat;  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.  Wherefore, by their fruits ye shall know them.  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.  Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name have cast out devils, and in thy name done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess unto them: I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.  Therefore, whoso heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon a rock—  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock.  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand—  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell, and great was the fall of it."

In the Old Testament we read that the Lord commanded the Israelites to drive out all the inhabitants of the land before them, destroying all their carved figures and cast images and eliminating all their shrines.  The Lord had given the land to them and they were to take possession of it and divide it up according to their families.  However, if they refused to drive out the inhabitants of the land before them, those inhabitants would prove to be thorns in their side and would persecute them in the land in which they would live.  Numbers 33:50-56 "And the Lord spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,  Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;  Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:  And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.  And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit.  But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.  Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them."

Some verses with a thought booklet describe the wickedness and perilous times of the last days.  Pretty much describes our world today.  2 Timothy 3:1-7 "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."
