Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Mormon cried repentance unto the people, but they hardened their hearts against God. Mormon 3:1-3 " And it came to pass that the Lamanites did not come to battle again until ten years more had passed away. And behold, I had employed my people, the Nephites, in preparing their lands and their arms against the time of battle.  And it came to pass that the Lord did say unto me: Cry unto this people—Repent ye, and come unto me, and be ye baptized, and build up again my church, and ye shall be spared. And I did cry unto this people, but it was in vain; and they did not realize that it was the Lord that had spared them, and granted unto them a chance for repentance. And behold they did harden their hearts against the Lord their God."

In the Old Testament we read that after Gideon died, the Israelites once again acted unfaithfully by worshiping Baal and setting up idols for gods.  They forgot the Lord their God who had delivered them from their enemies on every side. It's very sad how quickly people are to forget the Lord and His blessings, and turn to wickedness.  Judges 8:33-34 "And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.  And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:"

Some verses with a thought booklet tell the stories of the lost sheep and the lost coin.  Just as a shepherd rejoices when he finds his lost sheep and a person rejoices when she finds a misplaced coin, imagine how joyful our Heavenly Father is over one soul who repents and returns unto Him.  Every person is precious in the sight of the Lord.  Luke 15:1-10 "Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.  And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. And he spake this parable unto them, saying,  What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?  And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.  I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?  And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.  Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."
