In the Book of Mormon we read that the Lord will remember the covenants that He has made with His people. He knows their prayers and their faith. They could perform miracles in His name. The Nephites record would come forth in a day when people would say that miracles had ceased and when great wickedness would be upon the land. The churches would be full of pride. Mormon 8:23-28 "Search the prophecies of Isaiah. Behold, I cannot write them. Yea, behold I say unto you, that those saints who have gone before me, who have possessed this land, shall cry, yea, even from the dust will they cry unto the Lord; and as the Lord liveth he will remember the covenant which he hath made with them. And he knoweth their prayers, that they were in behalf of their brethren. And he knoweth their faith, for in his name could they remove mountains; and in his name could they cause the earth to shake; and by the power of his word did they cause prisons to tumble to the earth; yea, even the fiery furnace could not harm them, neither wild beasts nor poisonous serpents, because of the power of his word. And behold, their prayers were also in behalf of him that the Lord should suffer to bring these things forth. And no one need say they shall not come, for they surely shall, for the Lord hath spoken it; for out of the earth shall they come, by the hand of the Lord, and none can stay it; and it shall come in a day when it shall be said that miracles are done away; and it shall come even as if one should speak from the dead. And it shall come in a day when the blood of saints shall cry unto the Lord, because of secret combinations and the works of darkness. Yea, it shall come in a day when the power of God shall be denied, and churches become defiled and be lifted up in the pride of their hearts; yea, even in a day when leaders of churches and teachers shall rise in the pride of their hearts, even to the envying of them who belong to their churches."
In the Old Testament we read that Saul waited a week for Samuel to come and offer burn offerings but when he didn't show up, Saul decided to go ahead and do the offerings himself, even though he was not authorized to do so. When Samuel did get there, he chastized Saul, telling him that because he had broken the Lord's commands, the Lord would not establish his rule over Israel but would find another man to be a leader over His people--someone who would keep the Lord's commandments. 1 Samuel 13:7-14 "And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 4 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the Lord will guide us continually and satisfy our needs. The story is told of a couple who were trying to find a train station in a strange town. They got very lost and were afraid of missing their train. They stopped and asked for directions and then had a better idea of how to get there but then they feared they'd made a wrong turn and were lost again. Just when they'd about given up hope that they were going the right way they saw a sign that simply said, "keep going." So they did, and found the depot in time to board their train. Guidance from the Lord often comes this way. We need to ask for directions in what we should do, which he gives us. But sometimes we lose hope and start doubting those instructions. But then He'll often send us a sign to "keep going." This sign can be in the form of encouraging friends, a scripture that we read, or any number of other things that come across our path, if we look for them. If we trust in the Lord, He will help us find the right path to travel through life and guide us all along the way. Isaiah 58:11 "And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."
