In the Old Testament I read about how the Israelites covenanted with the Lord to keep His commandments and the Lord in turned promised them that He would make them a holy people and a great nation. Deut. 26:16-19 "This day the Lord thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. Thou hast avouched the Lord this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice: And the Lord hath vouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the Lord thy God, as he hath spoken."
In the Book of Mormon I read that after we're on the straight and narrow path that leads to eternal life, all is not done. We need to continue on that path with unshaken faith in our Redeemer and endure to the end. We need to press forward with steadfastness in Christ and feast upon His word. If we do these things, we'll have eternal life. 2 Ne. 31: 19-20 "And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save. Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life."
In a thought booklet I read some scriptures that tell us that as God's chosen and beloved ones, we need to exhibit mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, and we need to be forgiving and patient with other people. Just as Christ forgave us, we need to follow His example and forgive others. Col. 3: 12-13 "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye."
