Daily Thoughts

In the Old Testament I read that those that trust in the Lord will be blessed, and will not be removed. The Lord will be around His people, just as solidly as the mountains around Jerusalem. Ps. 125: 1-2 "They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever."

In the Book of Mormon I read about how Lucifer wanted to exalt his throne and be above the Most High, but was cast out of heaven for rebellion. 2 Ne. 24: 12-15 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! Art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thy heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that we need to be an example to others in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith and purity. The thought that went with this, written by Darlene Paterson from Orondeo, Washington says: "Let's start a new club," my grandson Brady said to his friend. "We'll call it the Flub Club. To belong to our club, you can't use bad language. If anyone uses bad language, they get three flubs and they're out." Brady had attended a Christian school since kindergarten but transferred to public school in seventh grade. He was doing well and making new friends, but the foul language he heard disturbed him. The Flub Club was his solution. The club caught on quickly and soon everyone was asking their friends if they had joined. While Brady was waiting with one of the teenagers for a ride home from basketball practice, the teen began swearing. "That's not a good way to talk," Brady said. "Why don't we think of some fun words we can use instead?" So the boys spent the time waiting for their parents thinking up goofy words. Instead of being judgmental, Brady offered creative solutions and encouragement. Brady not only set an example; he encouraged others in non threatening ways toward better behavior. Isn't that what Paul meant when he exhorted young Timothy to be an example in speech, conduct, love and faith? 1 Tim. 4: 12 "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
