In the Old Testament I read that if we hate the Lord, we love death and if we sin against Him, we wrong our own souls. When we commit sin, we're really hurting ourselves. Prov. 8: 36 "But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death."
In the Book of Mormon I read an admonition from King Benjamin to his sons that they should search the scriptures diligently and keep the commandments of God. If they would do this, God would fulfill His promises made to their fathers and they would propsper in the land. Mosiah 1: 7 "And now, my sons, I would that ye should remember to search them diligently, that ye may profit thereby; and I would that ye should keep the commandments of God, that ye may prosper in the land according to the promises which the Lord made unto our fathers."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that we need to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His power, putting on the whole armor of God so we can stand against the wiles of the devil. If we think we're strong enough to stand up against the devil by ourselves, we're in for a fall. We need God's strengthening power, which is only a prayer away. Eph. 6: 10-11 "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
