Daily Thoughts

Some verses in the Old Testament describe how just as if there is no fuel, a fire will go out, so will strife cease if there is no talebearer. Vicious gossip causes deep wounds that go deep into the intermost parts of the belly. Prov. 26: 20-22 "Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly."

In the Book of Mormon I read all kinds of qualities we need to try to emulate in our lives--we need to be humble, submission, gentle, patient, diligent in keeping the commandments, have faith, hope, charity, and a number of other things. This list is a lot to live up to! Alma 7: 23-24 "And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive. And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works."

A verse with a thought booklet reminds us that even if mountains and hills depart, God's love, mercy, and kindness will not leave us, and He will keep His covenants that He has made with us. We can count on the Lord. Isa. 54: 10 "For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee."
