Daily Thoughts

In the Old Testament we're told not to boast about ourselves, but if there's anything good to say about ourselves, let other people speak it. Prov. 27: 1-2 "Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Let another man apraise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips."

In the Book of Mormon I read about how Amulek received Alma into his house and fed him. The Lord commanded Alma to go forth among the people and cry repentance unto them, even though they had previously refused to listen to him and had cast him out. But he went forth again, taking Amulek with him, and cried repentance unto the people, being filled with the Holy Ghost. How difficult would that be to return to a people who had already cast you out and try to preach to them once again? Sometimes the Lord asks us to do difficult things that we'd really rather not do, but if we go forth with willingness, He'll be there with us and help us. And sometimes He sends people to help us, right when we need them, just like He sent Amulek to Alma. Alma 8: 21-30 "And it came to pass that the man received him into his house; and the man was called Amulek; and he brought forth bread and meat and set before Alma. And it came to pass that Alma ate bread and was filled; and he blessed Amulek and his house, and he gave thanks unto God. And after he had eaten and was filled he said unto Amulek: I am Alma, and am the high priest over the church of God throughout the land. And behold, I have been called to preach the word of God among all this people, according to the spirit of revelation and prophecy; and I was in this land and they would not receive me, but they cast me out and I was about to set my back towards this land forever. But behold, I have been commanded that I should turn again and prophesy unto this people, yea, and to testify against them concerning their iniquities. And now, Amulek, because thou hast fed me and taken me in, thou art blessed; for I was an hungered, for I had fasted many days. And Alma tarried many days with Amulek before he began to preach unto the people. And it came to pass that the people did wax more gross in their iniquities. And the word came to Alma, saying: Go; and also say unto my servant Amulek, go forth and prophesy unto this people, saying—Repent ye, for thus saith the Lord, except ye repent I will visit this people in mine anger; yea, and I will not turn my fierce anger away. And Alma went forth, and also Amulek, among the people, to declare the words of God unto them; and they were filled with the Holy Ghost."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that if we have faith in Christ and are rooted and grounded in love, we can know the love of Christ, which passes all knowledge, and be filled with the fulness of God. What marvelous promises these are! Eph. 3: 17-19 "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God."
