In the Old Testament we're told that on the Sabbath Day we should not do our own pleasure or speak our own words, but rather honor God and call the Sabbath a delight. Isa. 58: 13 "If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:"
In the Book of Mormon Nephi chastised the people, calling them fools because of how blind and stiffnecked they were, and saying they ought to howl and mourn because of the great destruction that would await them if they didn't repent, because God would not continue to suffer them to go on in their ways of sin. Hel. 9: 21-22 "But Nephi said unto them: O ye fools, ye uncircumcised of heart, ye blind, and ye stiffnecked people, do ye know how long the Lord your God will suffer you that ye shall go on in this your way of sin? O ye ought to begin to howl and mourn, because of the great destruction which at this time doth await you, except ye shall repent."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that God is light and if we walk in light, the blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse us from all sin. If we say we have fellowship with God but walk in darkness, we are liars. If we say we don't commit sins, are are liars. Everyone sins, but if we repent of our sins, God will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 Jn. 1: 5-10 "This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
