In the Old Testament I read that two thirds of the people will be cut off and die and one third will be brought through fire, refining them the way silver and gold are refined. They will call upon the name of the Lord and He will hear them. They will be His people and He will be their God. Zech. 13: 8-9 "And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God."
In the Pearl of Great Price I read about how Enoch asked the Lord why He was weeping, seeing that He was holy and had so many creations. The Lord showed him the wickedness of the people and how they were without affection, even though they'd been commanded to love one another. Seeing this broke God's heart and made Him weep. He loves us. When we sin, it hurts Him. He has so much compassion for us and He wants to bless us. Let's live our lives so we don't make Him weep over us and our sins. Moses 7: 28-33, 37, 40-41 "And it came to pass that the God of heaven looked upon the residue of the people, and he wept; and Enoch bore record of it, saying: How is it that the heavens weep, and shed forth their tears as the rain upon the mountains? And Enoch said unto the Lord: How is it that thou canst weep, seeing thou art holy, and from all eternity to all eternity? And were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations; and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet thou art there, and thy bosom is there; and also thou art just; thou art merciful and kind forever; And thou hast taken Zion to thine own bosom, from all thy creations, from all eternity to all eternity; and naught but peace, justice, and truth is the habitation of thy throne; and mercy shall go before thy face and have no end; how is it thou canst weep? The Lord said unto Enoch: Behold these thy brethren; they are the workmanship of mine own hands, and I gave unto them their knowledge, in the day I created them; and in the Garden of Eden, gave I unto man his agency; And unto thy brethren have I said, and also given commandment, that they should love one another, and that they should choose me, their Father; but behold, they are without affection, and they hate their own blood; But behold, their sins shall be upon the heads of their fathers; Satan shall be their father, and misery shall be their doom; and the whole heavens shall weep over them, even all the workmanship of mine hands; wherefore should not the heavens weep, seeing these shall suffer? Wherefore, for this shall the heavens weep, yea, and all the workmanship of mine hands. And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto Enoch, and told Enoch all the doings of the children of men; wherefore Enoch knew, and looked upon their wickedness, and their misery, and wept and stretched forth his arms, and his heart swelled wide as eternity; and his bowels yearned; and all eternity shook."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the enfolding of God's words gives light and understanding. This is why it's important to study the scriptures every day. They are God's words. And we'll gain light and understanding as we immerse ourselves in them. Ps. 119: 130 "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple."
