In the Old Testament I read that those who refuse to hear or give glory to the name of the Lord will be cursed instead of blessed. Mal. 2: 2 "If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart."
In the Pearl of Great Price I read about how Abraham was delivered from the hands of the wicked who intended to sacrifice him to their gods. He was unloosed from his bands when he prayed unto the Lord. We may not find ourselves being tied to an altar and sacrificed to idols, but we may find ourselves in difficult circumstances from which we need deliverance. Like Abraham, we can cry out to the Lord and He will hear us. Abr. 1: 15 "And as they lifted up their hands upon me, that they might offer me up and take away my life, behold, I lifted up my voice unto the Lord my God, and the Lord hearkened and heard, and he filled me with the vision of the Almighty, and the angel of his presence stood by me, and immediately unloosed my bands;"
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that we need to be prepared at all times for the coming of Christ because no one knows what day that will be. Life will just be going on as usual when it happens and it will take those who are not prepared unawares. Let's not procrastinate the day of our repentance because we may wait until it's too late. Since we don't know when that day will be, we need to prepare NOW. Matt. 24: 36-44 "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."
