Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon I read that after Nephi had heard the prophesies of his father, he was desireous that he, too, could know these things by the power of the Holy Ghost. He knew that God makes Himself manifest to those who seek Him and this is as true today as it was in times of old because God is unchanging. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 1 Ne. 10: 17-19 "And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the Son of God—and the Son of God was the Messiah who should come—I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men. For he is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever; and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world, if it so be that they repent and come unto him. For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round."

In the New Testament I read about how Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead. But before He performed this miracle, He put out all the mocking people who were laughing and unbelieving. He did not perform this miracle among the people who had no faith. If we want miracles in our lives, we need to believe. Mark 5:38-42 "And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet ask the question of why the Lord is mindful of us mere mortals when you consider all the marvelous works the Lord has made. Why has He made us a little lower than the angels and crowned us with glory and honor? He loves us because we are His children. Now only should that make us grateful for how He cares for us individually, but it should give us greater care and compassion for others as well. We need to remember that they, too, are His children and He loves and cares for them. Psalms 8:3-6 "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:"
