In the Book of Mormon I read that the purpose of Nephi writing was to persuade people to remember the Lord, our Redeemer. This is the purpose of the Book of Mormon--to bring us to Christ and serve as a witness of Him. 1 Ne. 19: 18 "And I, Nephi, have written these things unto my people, that perhaps I might persuade them that they would remember the Lord their Redeemer."
In the New Testament I read that in the world we will have tribulation, but in Christ we will have peace. We can be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. We need to turn to Him and He will help us through our trials. John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet teach us that it's not enough to just love in word, or say that we love others. We need to show our love with our actions. If we have plenty of money to live well but turn our backs on those in need and show no compassion for them, we don't have the love of God dwelling in us. 1 John 3:17-18 "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth."
