In the Book of Mormon I read that those who are rich as to the things of the world and who are not compassionate to the poor will perish with their riches. 2 Ne. 9:30 "But wo unto the rich, who are rich as to the things of the world. For because they are rich they despise the poor, and they persecute the meek, and their hearts are upon their treasures; wherefore, their treasure is their god. And behold, their treasure shall perish with them also."
In the New Testament we read that God is full of wisdom and knowledge, even beyond our understanding. Romans 11:33 "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"
A verse from a thought booklet tells us to be still and know that the Lord is God. The thought that went with this, written by Doris Mueller from Valley Park, Missouri, says: Most of us live in a world of incessant noise--radio talk shows in our cars, television sitcoms and news commentary in our family rooms, even a headset when we are walking or jogging. And everywhere--on the street, in the park, at the supermarket, even at the theater--the ever present cell phone intrudes on our consciousness. There seems to be no respite from the cacophony of civilization. But shouldn't there be? Don't you find yourself at times (as I do) longing for a moment of quiet? We need regular opportunities to center ourselves, to be calm and meditate, to pray and read God's world. Let us resolve to set aside a time every day in which to read the Scriptures, meditate, and worship God. We also need a space--an easy chair in the den, a back bedroom, or even a park bench. Then we can turn off the radio, the television, and the telephones so that we can truly let ourselves be quiet as we listen for God's still, small voice in the unaccustomed silence. Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."
