In the Book of Mormon I read that it is awful to transgress the laws of God and yield to the enticings of the devil. To be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is eternal life. 2 Ne. 9: 39 "O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal."
In the New Testament we're told to avoid people who cause divisions or stumbling blocks or who with their fancy speeches lead others astray, contrary to true doctrine. They serve themselves, rather than Jesus Christ. Sometimes there's a fine line between trying to help someone find their way and just getting sucked into contention and arguing with them. If someone is sincerely seeking after truth, we can talk to them, with help from the Lord, and the interaction can be beneficial. But if someone has their own agenda and there is no reasoning with them, and the interchanges are lacking in the Spirit, sometimes all we can do is avoid these people. Romans 16:17-18 "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that we each have our own work to do. Instead of concerning ourselves with what someone else does or does not do, we need to make sure that we fulfill the assignments we have been given. Galatians 6:4 "But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another."
