In the Book of Mormon is says that in the last days, darkness and apostasy would cover the earth. In fact, is says that the people would be drunken with iniquity. Sounds like a pretty good description of the world today. 2 Ne. 27: 1 "But, behold, in the last days, or in the days of the Gentiles—yea, behold all the nations of the Gentiles and also the Jews, both those who shall come upon this land and those who shall be upon other lands, yea, even upon all the lands of the earth, behold, they will be drunken with iniquity and all manner of abominations—"
In the New Testament I read that when we are baptized, we are buried under the water and then rise up from it, symbolizing the burial of our old lives of sin, and the birth of a new life where we have been forgiven of our sins and are new creatures in Christ. Colossians 2:12-13 "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;"
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that loving God means keeping His commandments, which are not grievious. Every commandment we've been given is for our benefit and growth and we will be blessed as we obey. Indeed, if we love God we will WANT to obey His commandments. 1 John 5:3 "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."
