In the Book of Mormon I read Mormon's words as he was about to deliver up the plates to his son Moroni, who he felt would witness the entire destruction of their people. Can you imagine the feelings of his heart at this time? Mormon 1:1-2 "And now I, Mormon, being about to deliver up the record which I have been making into the hands of my son Moroni, behold I have witnessed almost all the destruction of my people, the Nephites. And it is many hundred years after the coming of Christ that I deliver these records into the hands of my son; and it supposeth me that he will witness the entire destruction of my people. But may God grant that he may survive them, that he may write somewhat concerning them, and somewhat concerning Christ, that perhaps some day it may profit them."
In the New Testament we're told to keep ourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:21 "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell the story of Peter healing a lame man. One thing that strikes me about this story is that Peter told the man that he had no silver or gold to give him, but "such as I have give I thee" which was to heal him through the power of God, and allow him to walk. What gifts and talents has the Lord given us that we can use to bless the lives of others? Maybe we don't have a lot of money to donate to those in need, but we do have ways we can give of ourselves, our time and our talents, to serve other people. And "such as we have" we need to be willing to give. Acts 3:2-7 "And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength."
