Daily Thoughts Friday

NOTE: I'm having major computer problems. My computer has completely
crashed and at this point I don't know if it's fixable or if the data in it is
retrievable. I've got it in the shop but they haven't had time to look at it
yet. I have a really old computer that sometimes works a little bit and
sometimes won't boot up at all. While I've got it up and running at the
moment, I'm going to send out several days' worth of Daily Thoughts in advance
because I can't guarantee I'll have a working computer to do it later. I
write my Daily Thoughts two months in advance and email them to myself so thank
goodness they were saved on my email program. Here are the Daily Thoughts
for tomorrow:

In the Book of Mormon I read about how Gideon formed a plan of how to
deliver the people out of bondage and went before the king to tell him of
his
plan. The kind listened to him and the people were able to depart by night
into the wilderness, taking their precious things with them. Mosiah
22:3-12
"Now it came to pass that Gideon went forth and stood before the king, and
said unto him: Now O king, thou hast hitherto hearkened unto my words many
times when we have been contending with our brethren, the Lamanites. And
now O
king, if thou hast not found me to be an unprofitable servant, or if thou
hast hitherto listened to my words in any degree, and they have been of
service
to thee, even so I desire that thou wouldst listen to my words at this
time, and I will be thy servant and deliver this people out of bondage. And
the
king granted unto him that he might speak. And Gideon said unto him: Behold
the back pass, through the back wall, on the back side of the city. The
Lamanites, or the guards of the Lamanites, by night are drunken; therefore
let
us send a proclamation among all this people that they gather together
their
flocks and herds, that they may drive them into the wilderness by night.
And
I will go according to thy command and pay the last tribute of wine to the
Lamanites, and they will be drunken; and we will pass through the secret
pass on the left of their camp when they are drunken and asleep. Thus we
will
depart with our women and our children, our flocks, and our herds into the
wilderness; and we will travel around the land of Shilom. And it came to
pass
that the king hearkened unto the words of Gideon. And king Limhi caused
that
his people should gather their flocks together; and he sent the tribute of
wine to the Lamanites; and he also sent more wine, as a present unto them;
and they did drink freely of the wine which king Limhi did send unto them.
And it came to pass that the people of king Limhi did depart by night into
the
wilderness with their flocks and their herds, and they went round about the
land of Shilom in the wilderness, and bent their course towards the land of
Zarahemla, being led by Ammon and his brethren. And they had taken all
their gold, and silver, and their precious things, which they could carry,
and
also their provisions with them, into the wilderness; and they pursued
their
journey."

In the Old Testament I read about how Joseph finally made himself known to
his brothers and told them not to be troubled for selling him into Egypt,
because God had used this situation to a wonderful purpose in preserving
life
during the famine. The brothers rejoice together and Joseph invites his
family to come to Egypt and dwell with him. Genesis 45:1-15 "Then Joseph
could
not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause
every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph
made himself known unto his brethren. And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians
and the house of Pharaoh heard. And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am
Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for
they
were troubled at his presence. And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near
to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your
brother,
whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with
yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to
preserve
life. For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there
are
five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. And God
sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save
your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me
hither,
but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his
house,
and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Haste ye, and go up to my
father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord
of
all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not: And thou shalt dwell in the land
of
Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy
children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:
And
there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest
thou,
and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty. And, behold,
your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth
that
speaketh unto you. And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt,
and
of all that ye have seen: and ye shall haste and bring down my father
hither. And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; and
Benjamin wept
upon his neck. Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and
after that his brethren talked with him."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the Lord will bring our
hidden, darkest secrets to light and reveal what's in our hearts. In the
day of
judgment, nothing will be hidden. Darkness hides nothing from God. The
thought that went with this, written by Andrea Osmun from Elyria, Ohio
says: My
family had two cats, Shadow and Jack. Both cats were allowed to roam the
house, but we did have a few rules. One night, after the lights were
turned
out, I woke up and felt my way to the kitchen in the dark to get a glass of
water. I flipped on the light in the dining room and found Shadow sitting
on the table, staring at me with wide eyes. "No!" I said, and Shadow
quickly
jumped off the table. The next night, I awoke again and headed to the
kitchen. Just before I flipped on the light, I heard a thud. The lighyt
shone
on Jack, who was right underneath the fish bowl, with a
deer-in-the-headlights look on his face. He hadn't eaten the fish, but he
had, apparently,
lapped some water. How do we act when no one is looking? Are we like my
cats,
who wait until the lights go out and then do what is wrong? Lord, we know
that you are always watching us. You know our secret actions and the
motives
of our hearts. Please help us to act the same way in the dark that we do
in the light. 1 Corinthians 4:5 "Therefore judge nothing before the time,
until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of
darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall
every
man have praise of God."
