Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon I read that the people became angry with King Noah and caused that he should suffer death by fire, just as King Noah had caused Abinidi to suffer death by fire, and just as Abinidi had prophesied would happen to him. Mosiah 19:20 "And the king commanded them that they should not return; and they were angry with the king, and caused that he should suffer, even unto death by fire."

In the Old Testament we read about how Joseph, as a servant in Egypt, was pursued by Potiphar's wife who wanted him to lie with her. He refused her repeatedly. Finally when he was alone in the house with her, she grabbed him by the garment, but he left his garment and ran away. She then accused him of trying to force himself on her and he was thrown into prison. However, the Lord was still with him, even in prison, and prospered everything he did. We can learn several things from this story. When we're faced with temptation, we need to flee! We don't stand around and think about it, or feel we need to explain or argue with the people trying to tempt us. Just run away, get out now! Another thing we learn is that even if things seem to go against us unfairly, as long as we remain faithful, the Lord will still be with us. Genesis 39:7-23 "And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out. And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home. And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out. And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled. And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it. The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper."

Some verses with a thought booklet are very familiar, but something we need to constantly remind ourselves of. We need to trust in the Lord with all our hearts instead of leaning on our own understanding. If we'll acknowledge Him in all things, He'll direct our paths. We often have our own ideas about how we want our lives to go, but somethings the Lord has better ideas, even though we don't understand at the time. Maybe we pray for a sicked loved one to be healed, but they remain sick or die. We don't understand, but we can trust that the Lord in His wisdom knew that His answer to our prayers (even though different from what we wanted) was actually best for all involved. If we put our trust in God, He'll direct our lives in the way they should go, even though it may be a different way than the way we thought we wanted it to go. He knows best. We can trust in Him. Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
