In the Book of Mormon we read that we receive no witness until after the trial of our faith. In fact, God cannot do miracles among those who have no faith. So when people say, "Show me a sign and then I'll believe" they're trying to do things in the wrong order. It just doesn't work that way. First we show forth faith, THEN the miracles will follow! Ether 12: 6, 12 "And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith. For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith."
In the Old Testament I read that enemies tried to stop the building of the wall, asking Nehemiah to come down and meet with them, but he refused to do so and continued working on the wall until it was completed. When the enemies heard that the wall was done, they were very upset, but they perceived that this work was wrought of God. Nehemiah 6:1-4, 15-16 "Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;) That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief. And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner. So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days. And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God."
A verse with a thought booklet is one of hope--that when we cry unto the Lord, He will heal us. Psalms 30:2 "O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me."
