Daily Thoughts

In the D&C we're told how the priesthood ordinances and authority is necessary for the power of godliness to be manifest unto men in the flesh.  D&C 84:21 "And without the ordinances thereof, and the authority of the priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh;"

In the Old Testament we read more about prophets who prophecy lies to the people, telling them there will be peace when that is not true, or telling them they do not sin when they do.  Things are the kinds of things that people want to hear and someone who tells them such things can become a popular preacher.  This is true today as well, when mega churches don't preach a thing against sin but flocks of people attend, donating lots of money.  But is that kind of preaching beneficial to people or harmful?  Today's scriptures say it's harmful.  It makes righteous people sad and it falsely promises life to the wicked so they don't repent or return from their evil ways.  You're not doing people any favors by telling them that their sins are not sins and that it's okay to do break the commandments of God.  Ezekiel 14:16, 22 "Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate. Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us not to depart from the Word of God, but to do everything written in it. We're reminded that if the Lord commands us to do something, we need to be strong and have good courage to do it.  We have nothing to be afraid of because the Lord will be with us wherever we go, and if we keep His commandments the Lord will bless us. Joshua 1:8-9 "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
