Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that signs will follow those who believe--they'll be able to do many wonderful works, casting out devils, healing the sick, and being protected from poison. However, we should not boast about these things to the world. D&C 84:65-73 "And these signs shall follow them that believe— In my name they shall do many wonderful works; In my name they shall cast out devils; In my name they shall heal the sick; In my name they shall open the eyes of the blind, and unstop the ears of the deaf; And the tongue of the dumb shall speak; And if any man shall administer poison unto them it shall not hurt them; And the poison of a serpent shall not have power to harm them. But a commandment I give unto them, that they shall not boast themselves of these things, neither speak them before the world; for these things are given unto you for your profit and for salvation."
In the Old Testament we read that Sodom was full of pride and was haughty. She had bread in abundance but did not help the poor and needy. Because of these abominations before the Lord, He took her away. Ezekiel 16:49-50 "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us to ponder the precepts of the Lord and seek the Lord with out whole hearts, that we won't wander from the commandments of God or sin against Him. We should delight ourselves in His statutes and not forget His word. Psalms 119:9-16 "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes. With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word."
