Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we're told that we should obey the constitutional laws of the land. D&C 98:4-6 "And now, verily I say unto you concerning the laws of the land, it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them. And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me. Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;"
In the Old Testament we read about how the foolish people flee from the Lord to their own destruction. Even though He redeemed them, they transgressed and spoke lies against Him. When in their distress they howled upon their beds, they did not cry out to the Lord, but rebelled against Him. Are we sometimes foolish like these people? Do we cry out in anguish because of our troubles, but refrain from praying to our Heavenly Father who can help and comfort us? Hosea 7:11-14 "Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard. Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me. And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me."
Going right along with this, some verses with a thought booklet tell us that we can praise God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ because of the great comfort they give us. No matter what our troubles or tribulation, we can receive comfort from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."
