In the P of GP we read that it is an evil servant to says that the Lord delays His coming and acts inappropriately. The Lord will come at an hour when he's not expecting Him and will cut him asunder, appointing him his portion with the hypocrites. And thus comes the end of the wicked, as prophesied by Moses. They will be cut off from among the people. Joseph Smith Matthew 1:51-55 "But if that evil servant shall say in his heart: My lord delayeth his coming, And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken, The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and shall appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And thus cometh the end of the wicked, according to the prophecy of Moses, saying: They shall be cut off from among the people; but the end of the earth is not yet, but by and by."
In the New Testament we read some verses that are often misunderstood by many people in the world. They state that we are saved by the grace of God, through faith, and not by our works. Does this mean, as some people seem to think, that all we have to do is say "I believe" and no matter what sins we commit, we'll be saved? Of course not! Many other scriptures clarify that we need to keep the commandments and that those who do evil and don't repent will not receive eternal life. What these verses are trying to say that no matter what good works we do, they are not sufficient to save us. We cannot of our own power save ourselves. It is only through the grace of God that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins so that we have the ability to repent and be forgiven. We need to have faith in Jeus Christ, and not place our faith in our own good works, boasting of the good things we do and thinking that because of them, we can be saved without needing Jesus Christ. We all need the atonement of Christ. We have all sinned and fallen short, and none of us is good enough to be saved because of anything we can do. But we do need to repent and keep the commandments. We're saved by grace, AFTER all we can do. Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
A scripture with a thought booklet tells us that to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. The thoughts that we think are of vital importance and determine not only the type of person that we are, but our eternal destiny. Romans 8:6 "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
