Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that some of Joseph Smith's family members joined the Presbyterians, but he was considering joining the Methodists.  However, in all the strive and confusion, he realized it was impossible for someone as young and inexperienced as himself to come to a certain conclusion about who was right and who was wrong.  Joseph Smith History 1:7-8  "I was at this time in my fifteenth year. My father's family was proselyted to the Presbyterian faith, and four of them joined that church, namely, my mother, Lucy; my brothers Hyrum and Samuel Harrison; and my sister Sophronia. During this time of great excitement my mind was called up to serious reflection and great uneasiness; but though my feelings were deep and often poignant, still I kept myself aloof from all these parties, though I attended their several meetings as often as occasion would permit. In process of time my mind became somewhat partial to the Methodist sect, and I felt some desire to be united with them; but so great were the confusion and strife among the different denominations, that it was impossible for a person young as I was, and so unacquainted with men and things, to come to any certain conclusion who was right and who was wrong."

In the New Testament we're told not to be unduly concerned about anything, but by prayer and supplication we should give thanks and let our requests be made known to God.  If we do this, the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, will keep our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.  Instead of worrying and fretting over our problems, we need to turn them over to God in prayer, and give Him thanks for all He does for us.  This will bring peace into our lives.  Philippians 4:6-7 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that sometimes we need to be fed spiritually with milk before we're ready for the meat.  We need to learn things line upon line, precept on precept.  1 Corinthians 3:2 "I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able."
