In the P of GP we read about how the different denominations were contending against each other and all trying to disprove the others. Joseph Smith History 1:9 "My mind at times was greatly excited, the cry and tumult were so great and incessant. The Presbyterians were most decided against the Baptists and Methodists, and used all the powers of both reason and sophistry to prove their errors, or, at least, to make the people think they were in error. On the other hand, the Baptists and Methodists in their turn were equally zealous in endeavoring to establish their own tenets and disprove all others."
In the New Testament says that our hearts should be knit together in love as we enjoy the riches of understanding and acknowledgement of the mystery of God. Colossians 2:2 "That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;"
A verse with a thought booklet goes right along with this and says that if we share a common faith with others, we can comfort one another. It is a great comfort when a fellow believer can remind us of eternal truths, such as that life is eternal and we'll see our loves ones again, or that God will always be with us to help us get through whatever trials come our way. Romans 1:12 "That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me."
