Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Joseph Smith asked the beings which of the churches he should join.  He was told that he must join none of them for they all drew near to God with their lips, but their hearts were far from Him and they denied His power. Joseph Smith History 1: 18-19  "My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.  I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: "they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof."

In the New Testament we read about how true ministers preach the gospel in a godly manner, showing forth great love for those they teach.  They don't teach with flattery or with a words pleasing to the people of the world, but rather they speak what is pleasing unto God.  They work day and night to serve God and serve the people they are trying to teach.  1 Thessalonians 2:3-9 "For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:  But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.  For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:  Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:  So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.  For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower that the righteous can run to and find safety.  When we are troubled or going through trials, we can always turn to the Lord for comfort and strength.  We can run to the Lord and call to Him in prayer at any time.  He will provide refuge for us, just like a strong tower.  Proverbs 18:10 "The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe."
