In Articles of Faith 8 we read that we believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God and we also believe the Bible to be the word of God, as far as it is translated corrected. Articles of Faith 8 "We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God."
In the New Testament we read that we need to remember what we have heard and received and hold fast to it, repenting of our sins. We need to watch and be ready for Christ to come, for He will come as a thief in the night and we won't know what hour He will appear. We need to be ready! Revelation 3:3 "Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee."
Some verses with a thought booklet recount how the prophet Zechariah told the people to be kind and compassionate to one another and not imagine evil against others. But the people would not listen. They turned their backs to the prophet and stuck their fingers in their ears so they wouldn't have to hear him. They turned their hearts to stone against what the Lord had to say to them through His prophet. This caused the wrath of the Lord to come down upon them, and He said that just as they would not listen to Him, He would not listen to them. How do we react when the Lord speaks to us through His prophet? When we're told to change things in our lives, do we listen and obey or turn a deaf ear to the words of the Lord and make up excuses why we don't want to do what we've been asked to do? Zechariah 7:8-13 "And the word of the Lord came unto Zechariah, saying, Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of hosts. Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the Lord of hosts:"
