Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that those who hearken unto the Lamb of God will have His word manifest unto them in power and deed and the stumbling blocks will be taken away.  If the Gentiles do not harden their hearts against the Lamb of God, they will be numbered among the house of Israel and will be a blessed people.  1 Nephi 14:1-2 "And it shall come to pass, that if the Gentiles shall hearken unto the Lamb of God in that day that he shall manifest himself unto them in word, and also in power, in very deed, unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks—  And harden not their hearts against the Lamb of God, they shall be numbered among the seed of thy father; yea, they shall be numbered among the house of Israel; and they shall be a blessed people upon the promised land forever; they shall be no more brought down into captivity; and the house of Israel shall no more be confounded."

In the Old Testament we read the results of the people making the golden calf that we read about yesterday.  While Moses was still in the mount the Lord told him what was going on.  When Moses came down and saw it for himself, he was greatly upset. He destroyed the golden calf and asked the people who was on the Lord's side.  He instructed those who were on the Lord's side to go with their swords throughout the camp and slay those who were not. 3,000 people fell that day!  Exodus 32:7-10, 19-20, 26-29 "And the Lord said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.  And the Lord said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:  Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it. Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord's side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.  And he said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour. And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.  For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the Lord, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that Jesus is the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Him, even though they die, will live.  The story is told of a woman whose mother needed exploratory surgery to determine what was making her so ill.  Her daughter prayed that her mother would be okay, but when the doctor came out after the surgery, he told her that her mother had terminal cancer.  Her faith was shattered and she wondered why she'd been so stupid as to believe that God existed.  Then, as if to give God a second chance, she prayed that if He did exist, He would let her know it.  She then opened up her scriptures to this verse and realized that God was trying to tell her that even though her mother would die, she would live in heaven with Him.  Because of Jesus Christ, we will all be resurrected. John 11:25 "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:"
