In the Book of Mormon we read that when the Holy One of Israel comes, He will execute judgment in righteousness. The righteous have no need to fear. But churches which are built up to get gain and who seek power over others, becoming popular in the eyes of the world, will be consumed as stubble. When I hear about large mega churches who preach "feel good" doctrine, never condemning sin but telling people that whatever they want to do is okay, it reminds me of these verses in the scriptures. Many of these churches are very wealthy and popular because they preach what people want to hear, nor what they need to hear. 1 Nephi 22:21-23 "And now I, Nephi, declare unto you, that this prophet of whom Moses spake was the Holy One of Israel; wherefore, he shall execute judgment in righteousness. And the righteous need not fear, for they are those who shall not be confounded. But it is the kingdom of the devil, which shall be built up among the children of men, which kingdom is established among them which are in the flesh— For the time speedily shall come that all churches which are built up to get gain, and all those who are built up to get power over the flesh, and those who are built up to become popular in the eyes of the world, and those who seek the lusts of the flesh and the things of the world, and to do all manner of iniquity; yea, in fine, all those who belong to the kingdom of the devil are they who need fear, and tremble, and quake; they are those who must be brought low in the dust; they are those who must be consumed as stubble; and this is according to the words of the prophet."
In the Old Testament we read that vows and oaths must be kept and we must not break our word, but must do whatever we have said we would do. How good are we at following through when we say we will do something? Can we be counted on? Numbers 30:1-2 "And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded. If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth."
In some scriptures with a thought booklet we have a great example of obedience. The Lord told Abraham to take all he owned, leave his familiar country, and go to a place that God would show him. Imagine how you would feel if you had to move. Today. Box up all your belongings. Start traveling without knowing what your destination would be, but trusting that the Lord would make it known to you. And imagine doing all this being 75 years old! That's what Abraham did. Are we willing to be as obedient as he was? Genesis 12:1, 4 "Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran."
