Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Nephi was constrained to speak to his brothers according to the word of the Lord, just like his father had spoken to them before his death. Their words are written upon plates. Nephi wrote the words of his heart. His soul delighted in the scriptures and he pondered them in his heart. They are written for profit and learning. Do we likewise delight in the things of God?  Do we ponder them continually?  2 Nephi 4:14-16 " For I, Nephi, was constrained to speak unto them, according to his word; for I had spoken many things unto them, and also my father, before his death; many of which sayings are written upon mine other plates; for a more history part are written upon mine other plates. And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children.  Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard."

In the Old Testament we read that if we find something that belongs to someone else, we should not take it and hide ourselves from the person who lost it.  We should take the lost items to the person they belong to. And if we don't know who lost them, we should take the items to our home for safe keeping until the person comes looking for them.  In other words, finders keepers, losers weepers is NOT the way the Lord would have us conduct ourselves.  Deuteronomy 22:1-3 "Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother. And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.  In like manner shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou do with his raiment; and with all lost thing of thy brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise: thou mayest not hide thyself."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that just hearing the word of God preached to us is not enough.  It will only profit us if we have faith in what we hear. Just hearing the word of God is of no benefit to us if we don't believe what we hear.  Hebrews 4:2 "For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it."
