Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that we should not fear what people can do to us, nor be afraid of their reproach or revilings. They will not last.  But the righteousness of the Lord will last forever and His salvation will be from generation to generation. We need to awake and rely on the strength of the arm of the Lord. He is the one who dried up the Red Sea so the Israelites could pass over. The redeemed will come to Zion with singing and everlasting joy. Their mourning will flee away. We have no reason to fear man who will die, for the Lord will comfort us. And the Lord is mighty, having stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundation of the earth. Zion is His people.  2 Nephi 8:7-16 "Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart I have written my law, fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings. For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool. But my righteousness shall be forever, and my salvation from generation to generation. Awake, awake! Put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake as in the ancient days. Art thou not he that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? Art thou not he who hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?  Therefore, the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy and holiness shall be upon their heads; and they shall obtain gladness and joy; sorrow and mourning shall flee away.  I am he; yea, I am he that comforteth you. Behold, who art thou, that thou shouldst be afraid of man, who shall die, and of the son of man, who shall be made like unto grass? And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth, and hast feared continually every day, because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor?  The captive exile hasteneth, that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail.  But I am the Lord thy God, whose waves roared; the Lord of Hosts is my name. And I have put my words in thy mouth, and have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion: Behold, thou art my people."

In the Old Testament we read that Joshua smote all the kings and took their land, even as the Lord commanded him.  He destroyed all that breathed and left none remaining.  The Lord fought for Israel.  Joshua 10: 39-42 "And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king. So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the Lord God of Israel commanded. And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.  And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that a man will be blessed who refuses to take counsel from the ungodly but who delights in the law of the Lord and meditates upon it day and night.  Psalms 1:1-2 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."
