Daily Thoughts

Some verses in the Book of Mormon tell us that all those who die in their sins will need to face God while remaining in their sins and they will be thrust down to hell.  The result of yielding to the enticings of the devil is death. But to be spiritually minded is life eternal. 2 Nephi 9:35-39 "Wo unto the murderer who deliberately killeth, for he shall die.  Wo unto them who commit whoredoms, for they shall be thrust down to hell.  Yea, wo unto those that worship idols, for the devil of all devils delighteth in them.  And, in fine, wo unto all those who die in their sins; for they shall return to God, and behold his face, and remain in their sins.  O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal."

In the Old Testament we read that to those who love the Lord, when they go out at night it will be like the sun going before them, and their enemies will perish. Judges 5:31 "So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years."

In some scriptures with a thought booklet we read that Lord lead the children of Israel with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night to give them light. He guided and watched over them both day and night. Wouldn't it be nice if we had this kind of guidance and protection today?  We do!  In the New Testament Jesus promises that if we keep His commandments, He will be with us to the end of the world. And He says He'll send us the Holy Ghost to teach us all things and bring all things to our remembrance.  That means if we keep ourselves in tune with the Spirit we can be guided in our lives today just as surely as the Israelites were when they had the pillars of cloud and fire.  Exodus 13:21-22 "And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people."
