Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Nephi didn't teach many things concerning the manner of the Jews because their works were darkness and full of abominations. But Nephi wrote to teach people about the judgments of God and to persuade them to hearken to the words of Isaiah.  Even though they are not plain to understand, they are plain to those who are filled with the spirit of prophecy. So if we're having a hard time understanding Isaiah, we need to ask the Lord to help us understand. But Nephi said he delighted in plainness unto his people so that they might learn. 2 Nephi25:2-4 "For I, Nephi, have not taught them many things concerning the manner of the Jews; for their works were works of darkness, and their doings were doings of abominations. Wherefore, I write unto my people, unto all those that shall receive hereafter these things which I write, that they may know the judgments of God, that they come upon all nations, according to the word which he hath spoken.  Wherefore, hearken, O my people, which are of the house of Israel, and give ear unto my words; for because the words of Isaiah are not plain unto you, nevertheless they are plain unto all those that are filled with the spirit of prophecy. But I give unto you a prophecy, according to the spirit which is in me; wherefore I shall prophesy according to the plainness which hath been with me from the time that I came out from Jerusalem with my father; for behold, my soul delighteth in plainness unto my people, that they may learn."

In the Old Testament we read that because of Absalom conspiring against David, David flees to a place far off.  2 Samuel 15:13-17 "And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom. And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword. And the king's servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint. And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.  And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in a place that was far off."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet reminds us that the Lord is our Shepherd.  He leads us the way a good shepherd guides his sheep.  He will ever be with us, even as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, and we have nothing to fear.  He has prepared a banquet table for us full of His goodness and unfailing love, which will follow us all the days of our lives.  And then when our lives are over, we can come and dwell with Him forever.  Psalms 23:1-6 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."
