Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that the only words which could be preserved were the words engraved on the plates.  But because of the difficulty in engraving, only the things of most worth were written.  They labored diligently to engrave words that they hoped their children would receive with thankful hearts.  Jacob 4:1-3 "Now behold, it came to pass that I, Jacob, having ministered much unto my people in word, (and I cannot write but a little of my words, because of the difficulty of engraving our words upon plates) and we know that the things which we write upon plates must remain;  But whatsoever things we write upon anything save it be upon plates must perish and vanish away; but we can write a few words upon plates, which will give our children, and also our beloved brethren, a small degree of knowledge concerning us, or concerning their fathers— Now in this thing we do rejoice; and we labor diligently to engraven these words upon plates, hoping that our beloved brethren and our children will receive them with thankful hearts, and look upon them that they may learn with joy and not with sorrow, neither with contempt, concerning their first parents."

In the Old Testament we read that the Lord preserved David wherever he went and David was able to subdue all his adversaries.  If we have the Lord on our side, it doesn't matter who is against us.  1 Chronicles 18:1-6 "Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts. And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates. And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots. And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.  Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, and brought gifts. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that harsh words can be like a sword stabbing us, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Our words ave impact on those who hear them, for either good or ill.  We can hurt people or comfort them.  Being able to speak is a God given gift which we can use to build others up and accomplish much good, or we can misuse this gift to tear others down and bring forth evil. It's important that we choose our words carefully.    Proverbs 12:18 "There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."
