In the Book of Mormon we read that the Lord was grieved over the sorrow of the wives caused by their wicked husbands. Their sobbings ascend up to God and witness against their evil husbands who cause them so much grief. Jacob 2:31-35 "For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands. And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts. For they shall not lead away captive the daughters of my people because of their tenderness, save I shall visit them with a sore curse, even unto destruction; for they shall not commit whoredoms, like unto them of old, saith the Lord of Hosts. And now behold, my brethren, ye know that these commandments were given to our father, Lehi; wherefore, ye have known them before; and ye have come unto great condemnation; for ye have done these things which ye ought not to have done. Behold, ye have done greater iniquities than the Lamanites, our brethren. Ye have broken the hearts of your tender wives, and lost the confidence of your children, because of your bad examples before them; and the sobbings of their hearts ascend up to God against you. And because of the strictness of the word of God, which cometh down against you, many hearts died, pierced with deep wounds."
In the Old Testament we read that the Levites, by wards, were given different assignments. Some were in charge of the treasuries of the House of God, others were appointed to oversee the vessels, still others made the ointment of the spices or they prepared the shewbread every Sabbath. Each had their own tasks to perform in getting the work done. So, likewise do we have our own callings to fulfill, whether it's being a bishop, a primary nursery leader, a visiting teacher, or singing in the ward choir. 1 Chronicle 9:26-33 "For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God. And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them. And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale. Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices. And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans. And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath. And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night."
Some scriptures from a thought booklet describe how Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him, and then commanded him to feed His sheep. Peter had denied Jesus three times, so giving him the opportunity to affirm his love or Jesus three times was necessary for his repentance. Notice Jesus didn't scold Peter or demand to know why he hadn't had the guts to stand up for Him. It was simply, "Do you love me?" When we fall short and are in need of repentance, how well do we show our love for the Lord and how well do we serve Him and our fellowmen? John 21:15-17 "So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep."
