In the Book of Mormon we read that after Jesus taught all these wonderful truths, He told His disciples to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven, and all the things they needed would be added unto them. Why worry about food and clothing when they could see that the Lord took care of the lilies of the field and the fowls of the air. We're of much more worth than they are. Don't worry about tomorrow. 3 Nephi 13: 25-34 "And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked upon the twelve whom he had chosen, and said unto them: Remember the words which I have spoken. For behold, ye are they whom I have chosen to minister unto this people. Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin; And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, even so will he clothe you, if ye are not of little faith. Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof."
In the Old Testament we read that when man makes a solemn covenant or promise to the Lord or swears a solemn pledge of binding obligation for himself, he cannot break his word. He must do everything he said. Numbers 30:1-2 "And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded. If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that if we confess Jesus Christ before men, He will confess us before Heavenly Father. But if we deny Christ before men, He will also deny us before our Father in Heaven. The story is told of a college student who went to work in the Yukon for the summer among a lumber crew. The workers did not seem to believe in God, or in much of anything. When he returned to college his friend asked him if it was difficult to be the only Christian in a group of unbelievers. He told his friend that it was not difficult at all because he never told any of them that he was a Christian. Sometimes out of fear we don't speak out about our beliefs. It's easier to just blend in with everybody else than to face possible ridicule or to take an unpopular stand. It takes courage to stand up for our beliefs. But unless we're willing to do so, we may find that Christ will not be willing to stand up for us at the last day. Matthew 10:32-33 "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."
