Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that if we expect our Father in Heaven to forgive our trespasses, we need to be willing to forgive others. We should not fast to be seen of men. Instead of laying up for ourselves treasures upon earth, that thieves can steal, we need to lay up treasures in heaven, which no one can take away from us. No one can serve two masters  3 Nephi 13:14-24 "For, if ye forgive men their trespasses your heavenly Father will also forgive you;  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Moreover, when ye fast be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance, for they disfigure their faces that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.  But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father, who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and thieves break through and steal; But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  The light of the body is the eye; if, therefore, thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!  No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon."

In the Old Testament we read about how the Lord told Moses that he would be able to look at the promised land, from a distance, and then he would die and join his ancestors.  He would not be allowed to enter the promised land due to his rebellion.  Moses then inquired about who would take his place as leader of the children of Israel.  The Lord told him that Joshua would fill this role.  Numbers 27: 12-23 "And the Lord said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel. And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.  For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. And Moses spake unto the Lord, saying,  Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,  Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd. And the Lord said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;  And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.  And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.  And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation. And Moses did as the Lord commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:  And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses."

Do we ever feel overly burdened and weighed down with cares and troubles?  If so, a verse from a thought booklet gives us the advice we need--come unto Christ and He will give us rest.  Matthew 11:28 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
