Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Moroni gives an account of the Jaredites, abridging the writings of Ether as found on the 24 plates which were found by the people of Limhi. The first part of the plates described the creation of the world and told about Adam and the history of the early people.  But since Moroni knew that we'd already have an account of that period of time, he didn't go over that again, but only gave the account from the time of the tower down until the people were destroyed.   Ether 1:1-5 "And now I, Moroni, proceed to give an account of those ancient inhabitants who were destroyed by the hand of the Lord upon the face of this north country.  And I take mine account from the twenty and four plates which were found by the people of Limhi, which is called the Book of Ether. And as I suppose that the first part of this record, which speaks concerning the creation of the world, and also of Adam, and an account from that time even to the great tower, and whatsoever things transpired among the children of men until that time, is had among the Jews—  Therefore I do not write those things which transpired from the days of Adam until that time; but they are had upon the plates; and whoso findeth them, the same will have power that he may get the full account.  But behold, I give not the full account, but a part of the account I give, from the tower down until they were destroyed."

In the Old Testament we read that after David killed Goliath, women proclaimed that Saul had killed thousands, but David had killed tens of thousands.  At this point Saul became jealous of David and angry with him, and even sought to kill him but he was able to escape.  1 Samuel 18:6-11 "And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick. And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.  And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? And Saul eyed David from that day and forward. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.  And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

Some verses with a thought booklet tells us that we should consider ourselves fortunate when we face many afflictions or tribulations and our faith succeeds in helping us face our trials.  The result is an ability to endure and develop patience.  James 1:2-3 " My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;  Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience."
