In the Book of Mormon we read Ether's genealogy. Ether 1:6-32 "And on this wise do I give the account. He that wrote this record was Ether, and he was a descendant of Coriantor. Coriantor was the son of Moron. And Moron was the son of Ethem. And Ethem was the son of Ahah. And Ahah was the son of Seth. And Seth was the son of Shiblon. And Shiblon was the son of Com. And Com was the son of Coriantum. And Coriantum was the son of Amnigaddah. And Amnigaddah was the son of Aaron. And Aaron was a descendant of Heth, who was the son of Hearthom. And Hearthom was the son of Lib. And Lib was the son of Kish. And Kish was the son of Corom. And Corom was the son of Levi. And Levi was the son of Kim. And Kim was the son of Morianton. And Morianton was a descendant of Riplakish. And Riplakish was the son of Shez. And Shez was the son of Heth. And Heth was the son of Com. And Com was the son of Coriantum. And Coriantum was the son of Emer. And Emer was the son of Omer. And Omer was the son of Shule. And Shule was the son of Kib. And Kib was the son of Orihah, who was the son of Jared;"
In the Old Testament we read that Saul was jealous of David and wanted him dead. So he plotted to make him fight the Philistines in order to marry his daughter, hoping that David would be killed in battle. But his plan backfired. David killed 100 Philistines and Saul had to let him marry his daughter. David continued to have success in battle and Saul continued to hate him and want him dead. 1 Samuel 18:17-30 "And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the Lord's battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him. And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king? But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife. And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain. And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law. And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed? And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David. And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired. Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife. And Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him. And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually. Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us to exhort, comfort, and encourage one another, as a good father might his children. The story is told of a mother of young children rushing about on a Sunday morning trying to get her children ready for church. It was such a struggle! And when she got there one of her daughters needed to use the bathroom which made her late for class. As she was tapping her foot in the bathroom waiting for her daughter, an elderly woman she hardly knew told her how inspired she was watching her bring her children to church. She remembered how hard that was when her own children were young. She said now she struggled with aches and pains and often didn't feel like dragging herself to church, but she kept on trying because of the example of this young mother. The words of this elderly woman warmed the heart of the younger women. She hadn't realized that her presence at church was noticed and was helping to encourage someone else to come. Her day was brightened, and she remembered those words in years to come and they continued to encourage her. What we say can have a real impact on those around us, and make a difference to their lives. 1 Thessalonians 2:11 "As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,"
