Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon I read Lehi's prophesy that six hundred years after they left Jerusalem, a Messiah would be raised up who would be the Savior of the world and He would redeem all mankind from their lost and fallen state if they would rely on this Redeemer. Lehi also prophesied about John the Baptist who would baptize the Messiah with water and bear record that he had baptized the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world. What marvelous prophesies these are! Indeed, a great many prophets prophesied about the coming of Jesus Christ before He came into the world. 1 Ne. 10: 4-10 "Yea, even six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem, a prophet would the Lord God raise up among the Jews—even a Messiah, or, in other words, a Savior of the world. And he also spake concerning the prophets, how great a number had testified of these things, concerning this Messiah, of whom he had spoken, or this Redeemer of the world. Wherefore, all mankind were in a lost and in a fallen state, and ever would be save they should rely on this Redeemer. And he spake also concerning a prophet who should come before the Messiah, to prepare the way of the Lord— Yea, even he should go forth and cry in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight; for there standeth one among you whom ye know not; and he is mightier than I, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. And much spake my father concerning this thing. And my father said he should baptize in Bethabara, beyond Jordan; and he also said he should baptize with water; even that he should baptize the Messiah with water. And after he had baptized the Messiah with water, he should behold and bear record that he had baptized the Lamb of God, who should take away the sins of the world."

In the New Testament I read about how Jesus was criticized for healing a man on the Sabbath Day. He asked the question of whether or not it was lawful to do good or evil on the Sabbath Day--to save life or to kill. The Sabbath Day is a day to do good! We should spend it doing things that will bring us closer to the Lord. And relieving the suffering of others is certainly something that Jesus showed us, by example, is appropriate for the Sabbath Day. Mark 3:1-5 "And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other."

A verse with a thought boolket tells us that when Christ comes gain, there will be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, for these former things will have passed away. God will wipe away all tears from our eyes! What a wonderful comfort to us, especially to those of us who have lost a loved one to death! Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
