Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon I read that the natural man is an enemy to God and cannot be saved unless he listens to the enticings of the Spirit to put off the natural man and become a saint through the atonement of Jesus Christ. We need to become meek, humble, patient, full of love, and be willing to submit to all things the Lord sees fit to inflict upon us. Sometimes when we're going through trying times, we may become bitter or angry at God. But instead we need to realize that whatever we're going through can strengthen us and help us to grow if we'll turn to the Lord and rely on Him to help us through it. Mosiah 3: 19 "For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father."

In the Old Testament we read that after God had finished creating the heavens and the earth, He rested on the seventh day, and blessed and sanctified it. The Sabbath Day is a special day to rest from our labors. If even God needed to rest after six days or work, how much more so do we? Genesis 2:1-3 "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us to glory in tribulations, for they result in teaching us patience and give us experience and hope. We receive the Holy Ghost and the love of God. One blessing follows another, but the beginning of this chain reaction is tribulation. So rather than being something dreaded and avoided, we should rejoice that the Lord loves us enough to give us tribulation, which results in our growth. Romans 5:3-5 "And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."
