In the Book of Mormon I read that in the day of judgment, all men will stand before God and be judged of their works. If they have been righteous, they will receive everlasting life through the mercy of God. If they have been evil they will receive damnation according to the justice of God. 3 Nephi 26:4-5 "And even unto the great and last day, when all people, and all kindreds, and all nations and tongues shall stand before God, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil— If they be good, to the resurrection of everlasting life; and if they be evil, to the resurrection of damnation; being on a parallel, the one on the one hand and the other on the other hand, according to the mercy, and the justice, and the holiness which is in Christ, who was before the world began."
In the Old Testament we read that Joseph received Reuben's birthright because of Reuben's wickedness. When we don't keep the commandments, we lose the blessings that might have otherwise been ours. 1 Chronicles 5:1 "Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright."
A verse with a thought booklet mentions that just as iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Are we doing this for our friends? When we see them making wrong choices in their lives that we know are going to lead them into trouble, do we whisper about them behind their backs and watch as they slip further down the wrong path? Or do we warn them as loving friends and try to get them back on the right track? Do we pray for them? Let's be the kind of friends who are a loving, supporting, help to our friends. Proverbs 27:17 "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."
