In the Book of Mormon I read that the people were so wicked that the Spirit of the Lord ceased to strive with them. They had once been a righteous and delightsome people, having Christ for their shepherd, but now they were following Satan. They were tossed about upon the waves without sail or anchor or anything to steer with. What a sad fate to happen to people who had once been so happy and blessed. Mormon 5: 16-19 "For behold, the Spirit of the Lord hath already ceased to strive with their fathers; and they are without Christ and God in the world; and they are driven about as chaff before the wind. They were once a delightsome people, and they had Christ for their shepherd; yea, they were led even by God the Father. But now, behold, they are led about by Satan, even as chaff is driven before the wind, or as a vessel is tossed about upon the waves, without sail or anchor, or without anything wherewith to steer her; and even as she is, so are they. And behold, the Lord hath reserved their blessings, which they might have received in the land, for the Gentiles who shall possess the land."
In the Old Testament we read that blessings will result from obedience, but if people forsake the Lord and don't keep His commandments, they will suffer the consequences. 2 Chronicles 7:17-22 " And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments; Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel. But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations. And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house? And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them."
Some verses with a thought booklet admonish us to be ready for the Lord's coming, for we don't know when that will be and we need to always be prepared. Nobody knows when Christ will come, so we need to be prepared as it He will come today. If we do that every day, one of these days we'll be right. Matthew 24:36-44 "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read that Mormon again lead the Nephite armies in battles of blood and carnage, but he was without hope because he knew that the judgments of the Lord would come upon them because they refused to repent of their wickedness and would not call upon God for help. Mormon 5: 1-2 "And it came to pass that I did go forth among the Nephites, and did repent of the oath which I had made that I would no more assist them; and they gave me command again of their armies, for they looked upon me as though I could deliver them from their afflictions. But behold, I was without hope, for I knew the judgments of the Lord which should come upon them; for they repented not of their iniquities, but did struggle for their lives without calling upon that Being who created them."
In the Old Testament we read Solomon's prayers that if his people sin and go astray to the point that the Lord turns from them and they are held captive by their enemies, that if they return to the Lord with all their hearts and repent of their sins, He will forgive them. Indeed, all of us sin and are in need of repentance. But the Lord will forgive us if we do repent with all our hearts. 2 Chronicles 6:35-40 "Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near; Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly; If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name: Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee. Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us the way to recognize a true follower of Jesus Christ--it's by the love that they show one another. I have to think of this when I hear people arguing about who is or who isn't a Christian. The scriptures define what a true Christian is--it is someone who shows love for others. John 13:35 "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

In the Book of Mormon we read about the horrible scene of blood and carnage that took place when the Nephites and Lamanites battled together--both having their hearts hardened and delighting in the shedding of blood, there being so much wickedness among them. What a terrible scene this must have been. From this we see the sad results of turning away from the Lord. Mormon 4: 11-12 "And it is impossible for the tongue to describe, or for man to write a perfect description of the horrible scene of the blood and carnage which was among the people, both of the Nephites and of the Lamanites; and every heart was hardened, so that they delighted in the shedding of blood continually. And there never had been so great wickedness among all the children of Lehi, nor even among all the house of Israel, according to the words of the Lord, as was among this people."
In the Old Testament we read about how Solomon addresses the people after he built the house of the Lord. He tells them about how his father David wanted to build it, but instead the Lord raised him up to do it. 2 Chronicles 6:1-11 "Then said Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever. And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood. And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying, Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel: But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel. Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel. But the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart: Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name. The Lord therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel. And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel."
A verse with a thought booklet admonishes us to be meek and longsuffering, forbearing one another with love. Sometimes the word translated as meek is also translated as gentle. Are we gentle and kind in our dealings with others? Being humble and gentle is not a sign of weakness, but is actually a sign of strength. Anybody can get angry and be rude. But it takes self control to deliberately decide not to be that way. It takes a strong person to treat other people with kindness and gentleness, even when they try our patience. Ephesians 4:2 "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;"

In the Book of Mormon we read that the judgments of God will overtake the wicked. And it is often by the wicked that the wicked are punished. Mormon 4:5 "But, behold, the judgments of God will overtake the wicked; and it is by the wicked that the wicked are punished; for it is the wicked that stir up the hearts of the children of men unto bloodshed."
In the Old Testament I read some descriptions of things that Solomon built in the House of the Lord. A molten sea with twelve oxen under it is described, which sounds very much like the baptismal fonts in our temples today. 2 Chronicles 4:1-5 "Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof. Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about. And under it was the similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about: ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast. It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward. And the thickness of it was an handbreadth, and the brim of it like the work of the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies; and it received and held three thousand baths."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us to come unto Christ when we find ourselves trying to carry a heavy load. He will make our burdens light and we'll find rest to our souls. Matthew 11:28-30 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read that every person will stand before the judgment seat of Christ, to be judged of their works, whether they were good or evil. So we need to prepare for this day and repent, and do everything we can to persuade others to do likewise. Mormon 3:20, 22 "And these things doth the Spirit manifest unto me; therefore I write unto you all. And for this cause I write unto you, that ye may know that ye must all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ, yea, every soul who belongs to the whole human family of Adam; and ye must stand to be judged of your works, whether they be good or evil; And I would that I could persuade all ye ends of the earth to repent and prepare to stand before the judgment-seat of Christ."
In the Old Testament we read that the Lord asked Solomon what he would like Him to give him? Instead of asking for wealth or power over his enemeies or a long life for himself, Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge so that he could be a good judge for his people. The Lord was pleased with Solomon's request. When we pray, do we pray for selfish things for ourselves, or do we pray that we'll be able to help others and bless their lives? 2 Chronicles 1:7-12 "In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. Now, O Lord God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that if we try to hide our sins, we won't prosper. But if we confess and forsake our sins, we'll receive mercy. Proverbs 28:13 "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read about how Mormon lead the people into battle, but when they prevailed against their enemies, they boasted of their own strength and swore vengeance against their enemies. At this point Mormon refused to lead them anymore, due to their great wickedness. Mormon 3: 8-15 "And in the three hundred and sixty and second year they did come down again to battle. And we did beat them again, and did slay a great number of them, and their dead were cast into the sea. And now, because of this great thing which my people, the Nephites, had done, they began to boast in their own strength, and began to swear before the heavens that they would avenge themselves of the blood of their brethren who had been slain by their enemies. And they did swear by the heavens, and also by the throne of God, that they would go up to battle against their enemies, and would cut them off from the face of the land. And it came to pass that I, Mormon, did utterly refuse from this time forth to be a commander and a leader of this people, because of their wickedness and abomination. Behold, I had led them, notwithstanding their wickedness I had led them many times to battle, and had loved them, according to the love of God which was in me, with all my heart; and my soul had been poured out in prayer unto my God all the day long for them; nevertheless, it was without faith, because of the hardness of their hearts. And thrice have I delivered them out of the hands of their enemies, and they have repented not of their sins. And when they had sworn by all that had been forbidden them by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that they would go up unto their enemies to battle, and avenge themselves of the blood of their brethren, behold the voice of the Lord came unto me, saying: Vengeance is mine, and I will repay; and because this people repented not after I had delivered them, behold, they shall be cut off from the face of the earth."
In the Old Testament we read that the people offering willingly to the Lord and they rejoiced with great joy. I think there is a connection here. When we willingly sacrifice for the Lord, it does bring us joy. 1 Chronicles 29:9 "Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy."
A verse with a thought booklet tells Job to stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. Job suffered more than any of us probably ever will, in yet he was told to stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. When we're going through trials and tribulations, this might be something we should try doing. Stop. Take a deep breath. And think about all the wonderful things the Lord has done. Sit outside and watch the clouds float by or the birds in the trees. Enjoy the beauties of nature that the Lord has created. If we start feeling gratitude and awe for the Lord, it will help put things into prospective for us and help us appreciate all the blessings we truly have. Job 37:14 "Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read that the Lord told Mormon to cry repentance unto the people, but it was in vain. They refused to listen to him or to repent, but hardened their hearts against God. Mormon 3:2-3 "And it came to pass that the Lord did say unto me: Cry unto this people—Repent ye, and come unto me, and be ye baptized, and build up again my church, and ye shall be spared. And I did cry unto this people, but it was in vain; and they did not realize that it was the Lord that had spared them, and granted unto them a chance for repentance. And behold they did harden their hearts against the Lord their God."
In the Old Testament we read about how David told his son Solomon about how he had wanted to build a house for the Lord, but the Lord had told him not to because he had been a man of war and had shed blood. Instead, Solomon was to build the house instead. David gave Solomon the pattern for the temple and admonished him to keep the commandments, to be strong, and to build the house as he had been appointed to do. David told Solomon that if he would seek the Lord, he would find Him but if he was to forsake Him, he would be cast off forever. 1 Chronicles 28:2-12 "Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building: But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood. owbeit the Lord God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel: And of all my sons, (for the Lord hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel. And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day. Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the Lord, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the Lord your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever. And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. Take heed now; for the Lord hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it. Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat, And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the Lord, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things:"
In some verses with a thought booklet we're given advice about how to treat our fellowman. We should not judge people because of how much or how little money they have, but we should love them as ourselves. We shouldn't gossip about others or hold grudges against them or hate them in our hearts. But if we see them committing sin, we should lovingly rebuke them to try to get them back on the right path. Leviticus 19:15-18 "Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour. Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the Lord. Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord."

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read that the people mourned and lamented, which caused Mormon to hope that they were willing to humble themselves before God and repent of their sins. However, this hope was in vain. The people were sorrowing because the Lord would not allow them to always take happiness in sin. They were not sorrowing unto repentance, but rather it was the sorrowing of the damned--cursing God and wishing to die, in yet struggling with the sword for their lives. What a confused and miserable people! Mormon 2:12-14 "And it came to pass that when I, Mormon, saw their lamentation and their mourning and their sorrow before the Lord, my heart did begin to rejoice within me, knowing the mercies and the long-suffering of the Lord, therefore supposing that he would be merciful unto them that they would again become a righteous people. But behold this my joy was vain, for their sorrowing was not unto repentance, because of the goodness of God; but it was rather the sorrowing of the damned, because the Lord would not always suffer them to take happiness in sin. And they did not come unto Jesus with broken hearts and contrite spirits, but they did curse God, and wish to die. Nevertheless they would struggle with the sword for their lives."
In the Old Testament I read about various singers and musicians being assigned their duties. Music is an important part of our worship and praise of the Lord. 1 Chronicles 25:1, 3, 6-7 "Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was: Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the Lord. All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight."
Some verses with a thought booklet are great to read if we find ourselves worried or troubled. They tell us not to be unduly concerned about anything but instead make our supplications and requests known to God through prayer, giving thanks to Him. The peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ. We can indeed turn all our troubles over to God. He will give us peace. Philippians 4:6-7 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read about the great wickedness of the people. In fact, their hearts were so hard and they had willfully rebelled against God to such an extent that the Lord forbade Mormon from even preaching to them. Mormon 1:16-19 "And I did endeavor to preach unto this people, but my mouth was shut, and I was forbidden that I should preach unto them; for behold they had willfully rebelled against their God; and the beloved disciples were taken away out of the land, because of their iniquity. But I did remain among them, but I was forbidden to preach unto them, because of the hardness of their hearts; and because of the hardness of their hearts the land was cursed for their sake. And these Gadianton robbers, who were among the Lamanites, did infest the land, insomuch that the inhabitants thereof began to hide up their treasures in the earth; and they became slippery, because the Lord had cursed the land, that they could not hold them, nor retain them again. And it came to pass that there were sorceries, and witchcrafts, and magics; and the power of the evil one was wrought upon all the face of the land, even unto the fulfilling of all the words of Abinadi, and also Samuel the Lamanite."
In the Old Testament we read about how David wanted to build a house of the Lord, but the Lord forbade him from doing so because he had shed blood in all the wars that he had fought. Instead, the Lord told David that he would provide peace in the days of his son Solomon and wanted Solomon to build the temple instead. So David prepared materials to build the house of the Lord and organized workers to build it, and charged his son Solomon to go forth and do the work. He also commanded his princes to help Solomon in this great work. 1 Chronicles 22:2-19 " And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God. And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight; Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David. And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death. Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the Lord God of Israel. And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God: But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight. Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. Now, my son, the Lord be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the Lord thy God, as he hath said of thee. Only the Lord give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the Lord thy God. Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the Lord charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed. Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the Lord an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto. Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work. Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the Lord be with thee. David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying, Is not the Lord your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people. Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the Lord."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us to speak evil of no man, but to be gentle and meek toward all. Titus 3:2 "To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read that the Lord withdrew His disciples and gifts of the Spirit because of the wickedness of the people. There were no miracles or healings performed and the Holy Ghost was not present. Spiritual gifts do not co-exist with unbelief. Mormon 1:13-14 "But wickedness did prevail upon the face of the whole land, insomuch that the Lord did take away his beloved disciples, and the work of miracles and of healing did cease because of the iniquity of the people. And there were no gifts from the Lord, and the Holy Ghost did not come upon any, because of their wickedness and unbelief."
In the Old Testament we read that David sinned by numbering Israel. Why was this a sin? Because it shows that rather than simply trusting in God to take care of them in battle, David wanted reassurance that he had enough men to defeat his enemies. What he didn't realize was that if he had the Lord on his side, it didn't matter how many or how few his soldiers were. So counting the men showed a lack of faith. 1 Chronicles 21: 1-8 "And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab. And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly."
In some scriptures from a thought booklet we read a great story of early missionary work. Philip followed the promptings of the spirit to go and teach the eunuch. The eunuch, who was reading Isaiah, was sincerely seeking the word of God, but he needed Philip to explain to him what he waws reading. Philip was able to teach him about Jesus Christ and to baptize him. When we're prompted to approach someone and teach them the gospel, we should follow Philip's example and not be afraid to open our mouths. The Lord will help us as we do our best to try to spread His gospel. Acts 8:26-40 "And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read about how all the people, both the Lamanites and Nephites became wicked, due to their great wealth and their pride in the things of the world. Gadianton robbers again infested the land and evil was spread throughout the land. What a sad state for the people to fall into, especially considering how righteous and happy they had once been. 4 Nephi 1:40-46 "And it came to pass that two hundred and forty and four years had passed away, and thus were the affairs of the people. And the more wicked part of the people did wax strong, and became exceedingly more numerous than were the people of God. And they did still continue to build up churches unto themselves, and adorn them with all manner of precious things.
And thus did two hundred and fifty years pass away, and also two hundred and sixty years. And it came to pass that the wicked part of the people began again to build up the secret oaths and combinations of Gadianton. And also the people who were called the people of Nephi began to be proud in their hearts, because of their exceeding riches, and become vain like unto their brethren, the Lamanites. And from this time the disciples began to sorrow for the sins of the world. And it came to pass that when three hundred years had passed away, both the people of Nephi and the Lamanites had become exceedingly wicked one like unto another. And it came to pass that the robbers of Gadianton did spread over all the face of the land; and there were none that were righteous save it were the disciples of Jesus. And gold and silver did they lay up in store in abundance, and did traffic in all manner of traffic.
In the Old Testament we read that David subdued all his adversaries and they became his servants. The Lord preserved him wherever he went. He reigned over all Israel and executed judgement and justice among all the people. 1 Chronicles 18:13-14 "And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went. So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people."
Some verses with a thought booklet recount how Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Paul states that he was a chief sinner, having persecuted the believers out of ignorance. But through the grace of the Lord, he had now been put into the ministry and found acceptable before God. The Lord is merciful to those willing to repent, and through the Atonement of Christ, we can be forgiven of our sins. What wonderful news this is! 1 Timothy 1:12-15 "And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief."

Daily Thoughts
Yesterday we read in the Book of Mormon we read about how righteous and happy the people were. But unfortunately, it did not last. They were blessed with wealth and began to be prideful--wearing fancy clothing and having costly jewelry. They began to divide up into classes and no longer had all things in common. This was the beginning of their downfall and they began to deny the true church of Christ. We need to be cautious that if we begin to be prideful and care more about worldly goods than we do about helping the poor, we are on a dangerous road which will not lead to happiness. 4 Nephi 1: 23-26 "And now I, Mormon, would that ye should know that the people had multiplied, insomuch that they were spread upon all the face of the land, and that they had become exceedingly rich, because of their prosperity in Christ. And now, in this two hundred and first year there began to be among them those who were lifted up in pride, such as the wearing of costly apparel, and all manner of fine pearls, and of the fine things of the world. And from that time forth they did have their goods and their substance no more common among them. And they began to be divided into classes; and they began to build up churches unto themselves to get gain, and began to deny the true church of Christ."
In the Old Testament we read some wonderful words of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord. He has done such wondrous works and we should give glory to Him and remember the covenants that we have made with Him. 1 Chronicles 16:8-17, 22-36 "Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones. He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth. Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations; Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac; And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. Sing unto the Lord, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation. Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the people are idols: but the Lord made the heavens. Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. Give unto the Lord, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The Lord reigneth. Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein. Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the Lord, because he cometh to judge the earth. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the Lord."
Some verses with a thought booklet admonish us to let the Word of Christ dwell richly in us and do all that we do in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks unto God. If we do these things the peace of God will rule in our hearts. Colossians 3:15-17 "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read about the wonderful state of the people who had no contention because of the love of God which dwelt in the hearts of the people. They also had no murde3rs, lyings, envyings, or strifes. Indeed, they were the happiest people created by the hand of God. When we are righteous and truly have love in our hearts, it does make us happy! 4 Nephi 1:15-16 "And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people. And there were no envyings, nor strifes, nor tumults, nor whoredoms, nor lyings, nor murders, nor any manner of lasciviousness; and surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God."
In the Old Testament we read about how Uzza stretched forth his hand to steady the ark of God and was killed by the Lord. Why? It was not his place to steady the ark. He went beyond his own calling and jurisdiction. This is the kind of thing we do when we take it upon ourselves to correct things that we think are wrong with other people's callings that we have nothing to do with. If it's somebody else's job, we have no business trying to "steady the ark" for them. 1 Chronicles 13: 7-10 "And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart. And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets. And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us to rejoice in the Lord always. It's very important that we show gratitude to the Lord and rejoice in Him at all times, even when things aren't going well for us. We still have much to be thankful for. We are COMMANDED to rejoice! Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read about how the people were all converted to the Church of Christ, repenting and being baptized. They had all things in common and there was no rich nor poor among them. There was no contention in the land and everyone dealt justly with each other. Many mighty miracles were performed, all in the name of Jesus Christ. What a wonderful time this would have been to live in! 4 Nephi 1:1-5 "And it came to pass that the thirty and fourth year passed away, and also the thirty and fifth, and behold the disciples of Jesus had formed a church of Christ in all the lands round about. And as many as did come unto them, and did truly repent of their sins, were baptized in the name of Jesus; and they did also receive the Holy Ghost. And it came to pass in the thirty and sixth year, the people were all converted unto the Lord, upon all the face of the land, both Nephites and Lamanites, and there were no contentions and disputations among them, and every man did deal justly one with another. And they had all things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free, but they were all made free, and partakers of the heavenly gift. And it came to pass that the thirty and seventh year passed away also, and there still continued to be peace in the land. And there were great and marvelous works wrought by the disciples of Jesus, insomuch that they did heal the sick, and raise the dead, and cause the lame to walk, and the blind to receive their sight, and the deaf to hear; and all manner of miracles did they work among the children of men; and in nothing did they work miracles save it were in the name of Jesus."
In the Old Testament I read that because Saul transgressed by seeking counsel from a familiar spirit instead of the Lord, he died for his wickedness, and his kingdom was given to David. When we sin, we suffer consequences. And it is a serious sin to turn to evil sources for counsel rather than the Lord. 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 "So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; And enquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us to behave wisely, have a perfect heart, and set no wicked things before our eyes, turning aside from them and not clinging to them. When we're watching inappropriate TV shows or movies or reading or looking at inappropriate material in books, magazines, or the Internet, aren't we "setting wicked things before our eyes?" This is very displeasing to the Lord. Psalms 101: 2-3 "I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read that wo shall be unto those who deny Christ and His works, or who claim that the Lord no longer works by revelation, prophecy, gifts of the Spirit, or by the power of the Holy Ghost. 3 Nephi 29:5-6 "Wo unto him that spurneth at the doings of the Lord; yea, wo unto him that shall deny the Christ and his works! Yea, wo unto him that shall deny the revelations of the Lord, and that shall say the Lord no longer worketh by revelation, or by prophecy, or by gifts, or by tongues, or by healings, or by the power of the Holy Ghost!"
In the Old Testament we read that different Levites were given various different assignments, such as overseeing the vessels, making the ointment of the spices, singing, or being in charge of preparing the shewbread for the Sabbath day. Each person had their assigned task. Even though our callings may be different than things like this, we each have things we're asked to do and things we need to contribute. If we each do our assigned work, the work of the Lord is able to move forward smoothly. Even though we don't all have the same function, we're all necessary and we each need to do our part. 1 Chronicles 9:28-33 "And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale. Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices. And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans. And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath. And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that on judgment day we'll be judged by how well we served those in need, feeding the hungry, and visiting the sick. When we do these things, it's like we're doing them to the Lord. And when we neglect to serve those in need, it's like we're neglecting to do them to Him. When we love and serve others, we're showing love for God. Matthew 25:31-46 "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read that if we don't hearken to the words of Jesus, nor to those He has sent, He will not receive us at the last day. 3 Nephi 28:34 "And wo be unto him that will not hearken unto the words of Jesus, and also to them whom he hath chosen and sent among them; for whoso receiveth not the words of Jesus and the words of those whom he hath sent receiveth not him; and therefore he will not receive them at the last day;"
In the Old Testament we read that all of Israel kept genealogies, even after they were taken away to Babylon because of their transgressions. 1 Chronicles 9:1 "So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us how to deal with people who are unkind to us or treat us badly. We are not to give evil for evil but try to live peaceably with all men, as much as is possible. If we see that our enemy is hungry, we should feed him. If he's thirsty, we should give him something to drink. Instead of letting evil overcome us, we should overcome evil with good. Romans 12:17-21 "Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we're told that whatever we ask for in the name of Jesus will be given to us. If we ask, we'll receive and if we knock it will be opened unto us. 3 Nephi 27:28-29 "And now I go unto the Father. And verily I say unto you, whatsoever things ye shall ask the Father in my name shall be given unto you. Therefore, ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened."
In the Old Testament we read that when Ephraim mourned, his brethren came to comfort him. This is what we all should do when someone we know is mourning. We need to go to them and try to comfort them. 1 Chronicles 7:22 "And Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brethren came to comfort him."
Some verses with a thought booklet remind us that God is love and if we truly know God we will love one another. It's all about love! 1 John 4:7-8 "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read that no unclean thing can enter the Kingdom of Heaven. We need to repent and come unto Christ, be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost, so we can stand spotless before the Lord at the last day. 3 Nephi 27:19-20 "And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end. Now this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day."
In the Old Testament we read that when the men of war put their trust in the Lord and cried out to Him, He helped them and delivered their enemies into their hands. If we put our trust in the Lord and pray to Him for help, He will come to our aid. 1 Chronicles 5:18-20 "The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war. And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab. And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him."
One of my cats has a habit of standing off at a distance from me and yowling his head off. It took me a while to realize that all he wanted was attention. But no amount of me beckoning him to come to me nor saying "shut up" can stop him from yowling. I have to go where he is and pet him. That shuts up his yowls and starts his purrs. What a silly cat! One day I said to him, "You are a ridiculous cat. Instead of standing far off and yowling, why don't you simply come to me? I'd give you the attention you want if you'd just come to me!" Then it hit me. Maybe this is how the Lord feels. He is constantly saying "Come to me!" But often we stand aloof from Him and yowl our heads off complaining. Silly people!

In the Book of Mormon I read that in the day of judgment, all men will stand before God and be judged of their works. If they have been righteous, they will receive everlasting life through the mercy of God. If they have been evil they will receive damnation according to the justice of God. 3 Nephi 26:4-5 "And even unto the great and last day, when all people, and all kindreds, and all nations and tongues shall stand before God, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil— If they be good, to the resurrection of everlasting life; and if they be evil, to the resurrection of damnation; being on a parallel, the one on the one hand and the other on the other hand, according to the mercy, and the justice, and the holiness which is in Christ, who was before the world began."
In the Old Testament we read that Joseph received Reuben's birthright because of Reuben's wickedness. When we don't keep the commandments, we lose the blessings that might have otherwise been ours. 1 Chronicles 5:1 "Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright."
A verse with a thought booklet mentions that just as iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Are we doing this for our friends? When we see them making wrong choices in their lives that we know are going to lead them into trouble, do we whisper about them behind their backs and watch as they slip further down the wrong path? Or do we warn them as loving friends and try to get them back on the right track? Do we pray for them? Let's be the kind of friends who are a loving, supporting, help to our friends. Proverbs 27:17 "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read about how the wicked will be destroyed at the time of the Second Coming of Christ. However, to those who obey the Lord, He will come with healing in His wings. 3 Nephi 25:1-3 "For behold, the day cometh that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of Hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name, shall the Son of Righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth and grow up as calves in the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of Hosts."
In the Old Testament we read that Jabez prayed to the Lord asking for blessings which were granted to him as he requested. Our prayers are heard and answered! 1 Chronicles 4:10 "And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
Some verses with a thought booklet remind us that going through difficult circumstances that try our faith helps us develop patience. We need to let perseverance finish its work so that we may be mature and complete and not lack in anything. The things we go through help to make us into the people we need to become. James 1:3-4 "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

James 1:3-4 "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

In the Book of Mormon we read about the importance of paying tithes and offerings. If we don't do so, we are robbing God, for this is a debt that we owe Him. If we do pay our tithing, the windows of heaven will open to pour us down a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. I've found this to be so true in my own life and in the lives of those I know. As long as I've paid my tithing, I've always had sufficient for my needs. 3 Nephi 24:8-10 "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say: Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse, for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house; and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
In the Old Testament we read that Jehoiachin began to reign and he did evil in the sight of the Lord. As a result, Jerusalem was besieged and taken by Nebuchadnezzar and all the treasures in the king's house and the house of the Lord were cut in pieces. All the princes and mighty men of valour were carried away captive. 2 Kings 24:8-15 "Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father had done. At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged. And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, and his servants did besiege it. And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers: and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign. And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord, as the Lord had said. And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land. And he carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the king's mother, and the king's wives, and his officers, and the mighty of the land, those carried he into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet explain why the Lord chastens us. Even though we find it grievous at the time, it will yield good results for us in the long run. Just as our earthly fathers chasten their children that they love, so does our Heavenly Father chasten His children. God doesn't take delight in our pain, but uses it to make us stronger. Hebrews 12:7-11 "If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby."

In the Book of Mormon we read about how Jesus asked Nephi to bring forth the record that they had kept. When Jesus read it, He pointed out that it had not been written how Samuel the Lamanite had prophesied that many saints would arise from the dead and appear unto many, ministering unto them, and that this prophecy had been fulfilled. Jesus commanded that this should be added to the record. When we have spiritual experiences in our lives, do we write them down in our journals? If not, there may come a day when Jesus asks us why we didn't record these sacred events. There is an old Chinese proverb that says "The palest ink is better than the best memory" Write down the answers to pray, the strokes of inspiration that came at a needed moment, the blessing that healed, the church meeting that spoke to the needs of your heart at time of trial. Don't rely on your memory. Write it down! 3 Nephi 23:7-13 "And it came to pass that he said unto Nephi: Bring forth the record which ye have kept. And when Nephi had brought forth the records, and laid them before him, he cast his eyes upon them and said: Verily I say unto you, I commanded my servant Samuel, the Lamanite, that he should testify unto this people, that at the day that the Father should glorify his name in me that there were many saints who should arise from the dead, and should appear unto many, and should minister unto them. And he said unto them: Was it not so? And his disciples answered him and said: Yea, Lord, Samuel did prophesy according to thy words, and they were all fulfilled. And Jesus said unto them: How be it that ye have not written this thing, that many saints did arise and appear unto many and did minister unto them? And it came to pass that Nephi remembered that this thing had not been written. And it came to pass that Jesus commanded that it should be written; therefore it was written according as he commanded."
In the Old Testament we read about how a book of the law was found in the House of the Lord. When this book was taken to the king and he read it, he realized how sinful the people had been in not keeping the covenants contained in the book. He knew the Lord's wrath would be upon the people. He read the words of the book to the people and then had them covenant to walk after the Lord and keep His commandments. Then he destroyed the false gods and removed idolatry out of the land. This demonstrates how valuable reading the scriptures is. It reminds us of what we should be doing and the covenants we have made. When we neglect the scriptures, we tend to forget these things and our lives reflect it. It's very important to read our scriptures daily. 2 Kings 22:8-13; 23:1-7 "And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the Lord. And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king. And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes. And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying, Go ye, enquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us. And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem. And the king went up into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the Lord. And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant. And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beth-el. And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven. And he brought out the grove from the house of the Lord, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people. And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the grove."
Some verses with a thought booklet remind us that if God is for us, who can be against us? He sacrificed His Son who died for us. If He loved us enough to not spare His Son for us, how can we not know that He'll freely give us all things? Romans 8:31-32 "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read that even though the Lord might hide His face from us for a small moment, He will have everlasting mercy and kindness toward us. If we're afflicted and tossed with the tempest, we can rest assured that no weapon formed against us will prosper and every tongue that reviles against us will be condemned, as long as we remain righteous and strive to serve the Lord. We may at times feel forsaken by the Lord, but that is not the case. 3 Nephi 22:7-17 "For a small moment have I forsaken thee, but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment, but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. For this, the waters of Noah unto me, for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee. For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee. O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted! Behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children. In righteousness shalt thou be established; thou shalt be far from oppression for thou shalt not fear, and from terror for it shall not come near thee. Behold, they shall surely gather together against thee, not by me; whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall revile against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord."
In the Old Testament I read about how Hezekiah reigned in righteousness and got rid of the idolatry and false worship in the land. What a refreshing change from the wicked kings who ruled before him! 2 Kings 18:1-7 "Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah. And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did. He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan. He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses. And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not."
Some verses with a thought booklet remind us of the great mercy the Lord has for us. Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead and we, too, can have hope of a glorious resurrection and a place reserved in heaven for us. We can greatly rejoice in this hope, even though we may now be experiencing heavy trials in our present lives. 1 Peter 1:3-7 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:"

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read that the wicked will be cut off and destroyed unless they repent, and all lyings, envyings, and whoredoms will be done away. However, those who are willing to repent will be numbered with God's people. Sounds like a good idea to repent! 3 Nephi 21:14-22 "Yea, wo be unto the Gentiles except they repent; for it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Father, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots; And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strongholds; And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thy land, and thou shalt have no more soothsayers; Thy graven images I will also cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee, and thou shalt no more worship the works of thy hands; And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee; so will I destroy thy cities. And it shall come to pass that all lyings, and deceivings, and envyings, and strifes, and priestcrafts, and whoredoms, shall be done away. For it shall come to pass, saith the Father, that at that day whosoever will not repent and come unto my Beloved Son, them will I cut off from among my people, O house of Israel; And I will execute vengeance and fury upon them, even as upon the heathen, such as they have not heard. But if they will repent and hearken unto my words, and harden not their hearts, I will establish my church among them, and they shall come in unto the covenant and be numbered among this the remnant of Jacob, unto whom I have given this land for their inheritance;"
In the Old Testament we read about the sad state of the children of Israel. Even though the Lord brought them out of Egypt and commanded them to worship only Him, and made covenants with them, they refused to obey His commandments or keep the covenants with Him. They worshiped other gods, served them and made sacrifices to them, refusing to listen to the Lord, who would have delivered them out of the hands of their enemies. How very sad! The Lord can be so patient and loving with us, and bless us in so many ways. How can we be so quick to forget Him and go our own way? 2 Kings 17:34-40 "Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the Lord, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: But the Lord, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice. And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods. And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods. But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner."
In some verses with a thought booklet we read the parable of the barren fig tree, in which the owner of a vineyard wanted to cut down a fig tree which had not born any fruit for three years. But the servant suggested they leave it alone for another year and nurture it, in the hopes that it might produce fruit. Then if it was still unfruitful, they could cut it down. Likewise when we are unfruitful and don't live our lives in the way the Lord wants, He often gives us more time to repent and turn our lives around. But if we continue to be unfruitful, eventually we'll perish. The Lord is longsuffering with us, but we need to repent before it's too late. Wow, it's amazing how all three of these scripture verses today seem to all tie in together with the same message--repent now! Luke 13:5-9 "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read about how Jesus gave the sacrament to the people, providing bread and wine miraculously. After they had partaken of the sacrament they were filled with the Spirit and gave glory to Jesus. 3 Nephi 20:3-9 "And it came to pass that he brake bread again and blessed it, and gave to the disciples to eat. He then commands them to administer the bread to the people. And when they had eaten he commanded them that they should break bread, and give unto the multitude. After the bread, the same process is followed with wine. And when they had given unto the multitude he also gave them wine to drink, and commanded them that they should give unto the multitude. There had not been any bread or wine previously, Jesus had miraculously provided it. Now, there had been no bread, neither wine, brought by the disciples, neither by the multitude; But he truly gave unto them bread to eat, and also wine to drink. Jesus explains the symbolism of the bread and wine and promises nourishment of the soul. And he said unto them: He that eateth this bread eateth of my body to his soul; and he that drinketh of this wine drinketh of my blood to his soul; and his soul shall never hunger nor thirst, but shall be filled. Now, when the multitude had all eaten and drunk, behold, they were filled with the Spirit; and they did cry out with one voice, and gave glory to Jesus, whom they both saw and heard."
In the Old Testament we read about how greatly the children of Israel sinned, hardened their hearts against the Lord, and refused to listen to the prophets that the Lord sent to call them to repentance. As a result, the Lord was angry with Israel and removed them out of His sight, allowing the Assyrians to carry them to their own land. When we choose to disobey the Lord, we must suffer the consequences. 2 Kings 17:7-23 "For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods, And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made. And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree: And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the Lord carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger: For they served idols, whereof the Lord had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing. Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the Lord their God. And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them. And they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger. Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. Also Judah kept not the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. And the Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the Lord, and made them sin a great sin. For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them; Until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day."
A verse with a thought booklet reminds us that God will never leave us or forsake us, so instead of being covetous, we should be content with what we have. We may not have everything we might want, but if we have the Lord, we have enough. Hebrews 13:5 "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
In the Old Testament we read about how greatly the children of Israel sinned, hardened their hearts against the Lord, and refused to listen to the prophets that the Lord sent to call them to repentance. Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read that Jesus was able to do greater miracles among the Nephites than among the Jews because of their greater faith. The more faith we have, the greater things the Lord will be able to do for us. 3 Nephi 19:35-36 "And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of praying he came again to the disciples, and said unto them: So great faith have I never seen among all the Jews; wherefore I could not show unto them so great miracles, because of their unbelief. Verily I say unto you, there are none of them that have seen so great things as ye have seen; neither have they heard so great things as ye have heard."
In the Old Testament we read about the wickedness of one king after another. One example is Ahaz who offered his son in a heathen sacrifice. 2 Kings 16:1-4 "In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah Ahaz the son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign. Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord his God, like David his father. But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel. And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree."
A verse with a thought booklet warns us that a person who is easily angered is a fool! Sometimes things happen that can anger us if we allow them to. But what good does it do? I don't know about you, but I can't seem to be angry and happy at the same time. When I feel myself getting angry, my blood pressure goes way up and my heart races and I'm sure it's not good for me physically, let alone what it's doing to me mentally and spiritually. I can't seem to feel the Spirit when I'm angry, so I know it's not a good thing. I've found that even though it's the last thing in the world I feel like doing, if I force myself to pray, it does help. The Lord will help calm my upset spirit if I'll allow Him to. He can help me forgive others and feel peace once again. Ecclesiastes 7:9 "Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read about how the people were baptized and received the Holy Ghost. Angels came down and ministered unto them and then Jesus came and stood in the midst of them and ministered unto them. Can you imagine being there that day and witnessing these marvelous things? 3 Nephi 19:13-15 "And it came to pass when they were all baptized and had come up out of the water, the Holy Ghost did fall upon them, and they were filled with the Holy Ghost and with fire. And behold, they were encircled about as if it were by fire; and it came down from heaven, and the multitude did witness it, and did bear record; and angels did come down out of heaven and did minister unto them. And it came to pass that while the angels were ministering unto the disciples, behold, Jesus came and stood in the midst and ministered unto them."
In the Old Testament we read about how Jehoahaz and then Joash reigned in wickedness and did evil in the sight of the Lord, which kindled the anger of the Lord. 2 Kings 13:1-3, 9-11 "In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael, all their days. And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead. In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet help us realize how fragile life really is. We can't really say we'll do such and such tomorrow or next week or next year, because we don't know for certain that we'll still be alive then. It is all according to the Lord's will. Our life is like a vapour that appears for a time and then vanishes away. We need to make the most of the time we have on this earth. James 4:13-15 "Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon we read about how all night long it was noised abroad that Jesus would be coming again the next day so a great multitude gathered together to see Him. 3 Nephi 19:1-3 "And now it came to pass that when Jesus had ascended into heaven, the multitude did disperse, and every man did take his wife and his children and did return to his own home. And it was noised abroad among the people immediately, before it was yet dark, that the multitude had seen Jesus, and that he had ministered unto them, and that he would also show himself on the morrow unto the multitude. Yea, and even all the night it was noised abroad concerning Jesus; and insomuch did they send forth unto the people that there were many, yea, an exceedingly great number, did labor exceedingly all that night, that they might be on the morrow in the place where Jesus should show himself unto the multitude."
In the Old Testament we read that Jehoash reigned in righteousness, however he still didn't take down the high places where the people sacrificed and burnt incense. 2 Kings 12:1-3 "In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba. And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him. But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that when our eyes are consumed with grief and we're in our time of trouble, the Lord will have mercy on us. We can turn to the Lord during our darkest hours. Psalms 31:9 "Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly."

In the Book of Mormon I read about how Jesus gave each of His disciples the power to bestow the Holy Ghost. Then Jesus departed from them and ascended into heaven. 3 Nephi 18:36-39 "And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of these sayings, he touched with his hand the disciples whom he had chosen, one by one, even until he had touched them all, and spake unto them as he touched them. And the multitude heard not the words which he spake, therefore they did not bear record; but the disciples bare record that he gave them power to give the Holy Ghost. And I will show unto you hereafter that this record is true. And it came to pass that when Jesus had touched them all, there came a cloud and overshadowed the multitude that they could not see Jesus. And while they were overshadowed he departed from them, and ascended into heaven. And the disciples saw and did bear record that he ascended again into heaven."
In the Old Testament we read about how Jehu destroyed all the worshippers of Baal. 2 Kings 10:18-28 "And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much. Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal. And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it. And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another. And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments. And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only. And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him. And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal. And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them. And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day. Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel."
Some verses with a thought booklet remind us that we can trust God to keep His promises to us, just like He kept His promises to Abraham. However, Abraham didn't receive the promised blessings until he had patiently endured. Likewise, sometimes we need to go through trials and tribulations before we receive the blessings we seek. But eventually they will come, if we endure. Hebrews 6:13-15 "For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise."

Daily Thoughts
In the Book of Mormon I read that we will be blessed when we keep the commandments and that we need to pray always that we will be able to resist temptations from the devil and avoid being led away captive by him. Satan desires to have us and we need to watch and pray constantly so we won't enter into temptation. 3 Nephi 18:14-19 "Therefore blessed are ye if ye shall keep my commandments, which the Father hath commanded me that I should give unto you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye be led away captive by him. And as I have prayed among you even so shall ye pray in my church, among my people who do repent and are baptized in my name. Behold I am the light; I have set an example for you. And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words unto his disciples, he turned again unto the multitude and said unto them: Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always lest ye enter into temptation; for Satan desireth to have you, that he may sift you as wheat. Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name;"
In the Old Testament we read about how the wicked Jezebel is slain and eaten by dogs, as was prophesied by Elisha. 2 Kings 9:30-37 "And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window. And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master? And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs. And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot. And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter. And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel: And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that God does indeed answer our prayers. All we have to do is ask. If a child asks an earthly parent for bread, a father would not give him a stone. If he asks for fish, he won't give him a serpent. So if an imperfect earthly parent knows how to give good gifts to his children, how can we not know that our Heavenly Father will give us the things that are best for us? We can trust in Him. Luke 11:9-13 "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"
